BSG: Razor -- WTF?

Nov 24, 2007 23:29

So I just saw Razor.

Dear BSG writers,

WTF, guys? So you made Admiral Cain and Gina lesbians. A woman who is not exactly a guiding moral light, as evidenced by, well, this miniseries. (But they wanted to show us how morally complex this is by having her start by saying she didn't want to seek revenge and then shooting her XO in the head when he refused to follow the vengeful orders.) So, yeah, her. And a Cylon -- my favorite of the Sixes, granted, but the Cylons aren't exactly the good guys here either.

Dude, I couldn't even tell they were supposed to be together until Gina told Kendra as much -- I figured that a quick mostly off-camera dinner-party smooch was maybe a friendly thing, although it went by too quickly to really notice.

So it was, like, ten seconds of screentime, one of them is really pretty evil, the other's a Cylon, they both end up dead -- and you, BSG writers, want a big shiny medal for your inclusiveness? WTF?

(And I know you want a medal because I saw the bit at the end where Jamie Bamber (and Jerry O'Connell, who I really hope hasn't joined the cast) explain how we should all be allies to our GLBT friends, and check out GLAAD.)

You don't get a medal for having your evil and dead characters turn out to briefly be mentioned to have been queer. Really, you don't. This is not a positive depiction. I understand that you're very excited to have made two characters queer, but I'm pretty sure we have enough evil and/or dead lesbian characters that we're not gonna be real thrilled about two more. At least, I'm not.

Also, you can bite me.

Love,
Elena

P.S. Make Starbuck gay next.

Other than that, well, I liked it. It was a little slow in the beginning, I thought, but by the end it really had my interest. I'm also excited to see S3 whenever that comes out on DVD so I can figure out how the plotty bits relate to things that have probably come up in that season. Perhaps I should buy the DVD of this (I'd like S3 more, though.)
