Depending on how I'm feeling that CW What If? second storyline pisses me off lots or LOTS because it basically goes "if Tony had spoken up, none of this would have happened!" when...it takes two to fight, he did try more than once only to be blown off, and while Steve has very good issues with Registration, his behavior is infantile, reckless, and bordering on domestic terrorism through CW. You can't go "if only Tony!" without going "if only Steve". If only Steve hadn't gone "you're just paranoid" when Tony told him about Wideawake. If only Steve didn't have such anger issues and nearly murder his best friend for disagreeing with him about politics. Steve is very pre-1960s and deontological with his black/white viewpoints and if you don't agree with him you are WRONG! He's not a terribly sympathetic person. Empathetic, yes, but he won't try and see anything from someone else's point of view. Tony is a paranoid control freak wracked with guilt and a need to basically throw himself on every bomb. Often bombs he built. Arrrrg,
( ... )
This is all very true, and I concur with you that Steve has little sympathy for others' views, a lot of anger, and very very bad ways of expressing it. (As we are seeing in the current Avengers storyline.) Civil War: It's Both Of Their Faults? I can see how you might not like the second storyline for those reasons, yeah, but I liked at least getting to see a glimpse of a happier future, even if it was presented as the "Hey Tony, It's Your Fault" future. (Maybe the Watcher knew that Tony was Mr. Self-Loathing and thought he would be more likely to believe something that played into his own image of himself that way?)
(I just want them to get along...)
Ah, okay. I did not know he could make the world forget he was Iron Man. And, uh, at least he's going to AA? Even if he makes poor life choices. I'm beginning to think Poor Life Choices should be his motto.
Also I think I will have to check out She-Hulk's series.
I want them to get along and snuggle and be domestic and adorable in between punching MODOK and battling giant squid. (Have you discovered Marvel's obsession with Tony and tentacles yet?)
Poor Life Choices is Clint's motto. Shitty Coping Mechanisms is probably Tony's.
She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, Captain Marvel, and Black Widow are all truly awesome new books.
No, there are tentacles? Sweeeeet. Gimme some Tony/tentacle action. Um. I mean. Yeah. Is it anything like the Inexplicably Naked Or Nearly Naked Tony that keeps showing up? Could they be combined?
The Avengers sure have a bunch of bad mottos. And to think I didn't want to read these fifteen years ago because I thought they couldn't possibly have any interesting flaws. (Because, come on, "Captain America" does not exactly scream "I am angry enough that I would have murdered my best friend if civilians hadn't pulled me off him" to the unfamiliar.)
