Prosperity Challenge - 6.1 (Days/Years 16-18 - Burkett)

For this update, I've decided to try separating the families into more posts - mainly so that I can give everyone a little more attention. All of these sims are really growing on me, so I want to do them justice. Sure, I'll probably move even slower than I already do, but like I'm ever getting to generation five anyway. Not likely to happen! (Has anyone ever actually finished one of these?) This update follows Days/Years 16-18 in the Burkett household.

Burkett

Living alone was making Alvin depressed. His Cleanbots couldn't help him with his homework - Van used to do that. His grades were still pretty good, but he wasn't sure that he cared. College was a big question mark. He could afford it, but what was the point? If he left, the home business would die with no one to run it, and it was a sure source of income. What was the sense in going to college and then getting some entry level job with crap pay? He knew he still had a few years to decide.

The other bad thing about living alone was that he had to do all the work. Every chore, every broken item around the house, every meal, was his responsibility and no one else's. He'd gotten help and sympathy from the neighbors for a while, but that had naturally petered out and Alvin was left with a lot on his plate.

All of this made it hard to sympathize with his friends when they came to him with their petty problems - or so they seemed to him.

Eli Haynes had hung around the house a lot lately, and Alvin liked him well enough. Alvin got himself into trouble though, the day Eli poured his heart out to him.

"Alvin...I don't know what to do," said Eli. "So, I used to really like Shena, right? Me and everyone else, I know. But then Anabel and I got together, and I really loved her. I mean, real love! The things we used to do....oh, man. But then she was so cold when I asked her to officially be my girlfriend. So, I guess she didn't love me. I think maybe I should try again with Shena. I do still really like her. What do you think?"

Alvin replied, "First of all, everyone knows Anabel is a ditz, so I wouldn't even worry about it. And second, Shena is hot, so you should ask her out. I don't really see the big problem here."

Shena came over later, and Alvin again found himself on the receiving end of an emotional confession.

"Ok, so, you and Eli are in the same grade, right?" Shena asked. "I mean you guys are friends. So do you know what his deal is, because every time I see him at school this year he's all awkward and avoiding me. I think he's mad because Nevada didn't want him to join the band a while ago. I just....we just used to be really good friends and I miss him. So, yeah."

Well, to Alvin, this seemed like a simple enough matter to clear up, so her told her about Eli's true feelings. Shena went away looking very thoughtful. Alvin figured he'd better tell Eli what he'd said, so he invited him over and did just that.

Which is how his childhood lemonade stand ended up on the receiving end of Eli's hasty rage. Damn it, another thing to clean up. Stupid teenagers!

He was more annoyed than angry, but he did hope that all the work he was doing with robotics would eventually lead to rational companionship.
