Beautiful People - A Default Replacement Face Template Extravaganza Pt. I
I have to post this in a few parts on Livejournal, apparently. Yes, I'm sorry for the huge teaser. That darn teaser gave me trouble from day one and I finally gave up and let it stay this big. Making it smaller made it too hard to read/put as much text as I wanted. For the curious, the teaser models are each a randomly generated CAS sim - one from each template set.
Because these are such a huge project, as well as because they might be complicated for a first time template user to understand, there will be a lengthy body of text before the downloads. For seasoned template downloaders, any important pre-download info is in bold. For new-to-templates users, I recommend you read the text.
There is just one little thing I'd like to say to all involved in making this happen before I begin....
For sharing your wonderful, unique sims and giving me permission to turn them in to templates.
For the overwhelming generosity and support you have given to the project.
For those who took the trouble to retrieve lost sims on dead download links.
For those that went the extra mile to make exclusive faces for this project.
For those who were willing to allow the use of the most precious and personal of sims - their selfsims.

This is what all those WIP posts have been leading up to. It's here at last!
Five complete sets of default replacement face templates, using sims from all over the community. Available as complete sets and individually for those who like to mix and match.
I'm a mix-and-matcher myself. At any given time, I have a mixed bag from all the templates available in the community and I change them around as often as I change my underwear.... well, almost....
Though this next section might seem silly to many more seasoned simmers, there is always somebody less experienced than you are. If you don't know what default replacment face templates are, I will outline it briefly now. Every random game generated townie walking around your hoods, as well as every maid, nanny, firefighter, and so on, has one of the maxis face types. This is why so many townies look like Goopy GilsCarbo and Komei Tellerman in their facial features. Default replacement face templates will not change what a townie who already exists looks like. However, they will cause any new townie the game spawns to have one of these new faces. If you're not sure they're working, go in to CAS and click the Randomize button a few times - it should become obvious very quickly when you don't recognize the sims that generate as the usual Maxis suspects. For the impatient, just like last year's townie name replacements, these work fastest in a brand new clean hood. Not sure how to go about that? When I made the name replacements, I wrote a fairly comprehensive tutorial on cleaning your hoods as well as creating a completely custom, not so Maxian game. It's lengthy, but worth the read and I tried very hard to make it easy for the new simmer to understand...
For those simmers who might never have downloaded default replacement face templates before, it's pretty simple. Either download a full set, or JUST ONE of the options for each face. You can only have one template for each face number in your game at any time. I've tried to make this very straightforward in that I have given my templates with the same number the same filenames as one another, so they will overwrite each other. To sum up, they're foolproof as long as you don't rename the files! I find a good way to keep track of what I'm currently using is to have a small folder with a copy of whatever the current templates in my Downloads folder are inside. That way it is easy to locate your current defaults if you want to switch.
There are all sorts of faces in these templates. There are created sims and born-in-game sims. There are sims with very strong features and sims with very soft ones. There are enough elf eared sims to please the biggest elf fetish. Please note that if you're an elf-lover, for all but a couple of the faces there is one elf-eared option, but you'll have to mix and match for an almost all elf template set. There are selfsims (including my own - I would never ask anybody to do something I wasn't willing to do myself!) There are even fictional characters. There are classically beautiful sims as well as quirky and interesting sims. For the alien templates (28), there are classic aliens and less conventional ones, as well as some human options for those who don't want aliens in their game. The elf template (26) features only sims with elf ears, however some are more extremely featured than others. Many simmers will recognize several of the sims in these templates. However, there are likely to be many the average simmer won't recognize. This is not an elitist template set. There are sims belonging to lesser-known and unknown simmers as well as the more well known, "household name" simmers. The biggest requirements for sims to be eligible for this set was an either born in game or created face (eg. unique) and an ability to look acceptable through all ages and both genders. There are more of my own sims than I would have liked, but I've tried to spread them out so that you don't have to have any of my own sims as templates if you don't want to.
One thing you will notice right away as you look through the previews is that these template sets don’t look like any previous template set. They are more like Maxis originals in that there are some faces with stronger features and sometimes unusual or unique features. However, unlike Maxis faces, they’re not ugly. I think they’re all beautiful. If you disagree based on what the media and popular culture has taught you about beauty, I’m very sorry. Nobody can or should live up to the standard of beauty the media promotes, which doesn’t actually exist in nature. Speaking for myself, my eyes could only be closer together if I didn't have a nose, as well as being deep-set and permanently squinty. I have such a high forehead that long Bettie Page bangs are necessary if I don't want people to think I'm balding. My ears are a little larger than normal and stick out more than I’d like. But that doesn’t make me ugly. That makes me unique, and I’d be lying if I said I thought I was ugly. That said, how many people apart from myself have read these words a million times when reading a legacy: “I am so marrying her in someday - I need that nose in this legacy!”?
Most of the faces are completely unedited, though there were a couple I had to tweak slightly in the toddler stage (eg. one looked fine in all other ages but their eyes disappeared in to their brow area as a toddler). I only edited the stage until it was acceptable, no more, no less. When somebody creates a sim (myself included) they often don't bother to check if that sim looks normal at all age levels.
Most of these faces breed decently to each other (and in many cases far better than decently). Those few that really don't breed decently with one of the other faces have been given the same face number in different sets. Do not be afraid to mix and match, however. Many of these faces bred well with almost every other face across all sets, and when that was the case I threw them in a set randomly once important groupings were done.
The complete sets include a folder with previews of the low to middle range children of some of the faces in that set. I know for more common purposes people won't directly breed the template faces to each other anyway (eg. in a legacy situation) but some people will. I thought it better to show the less amazing outcomes of breeding, as it seems more honest than taking the most beautiful sim those two faces can produce and saying "this is what happens if you breed them every time".
For the mix-and-match simmers, there is a download link to a .rar containing a large selection of pictures of what can happen in breeding both within the sets and between faces that are in different sets to each other (though once again, all of low to middle range children). The link to this pictorial guide is located just after the last of the Alien options. I can already hear a few imagined cries of "But some of these sims are really pretty! Are you sure you uploaded the right folder?" Yes, it's the right folder. Like I said, most of these faces really do breed decently together.
I would like to point out that I took many more pictures than I've uploaded, but later deleted all but 120 of them for the sake of smaller downloads. Unfortunately, I did the deletions before the faces were organized in to sets, so some sets have more pictures of possible children than others (and I apologize that Set 3 only has one picture). I have, however, included the worst outcomes of all so that you'll know.
For the purpose of the offspring breeding project, I gave all sims my default S2 and the same set of blue eyes by Jesstheex (those particular eyes purely because they are the first "human" eye color in my eye bin and I didn't want to waste time clicking). The children are all CAS randomized children, not born in game children. Most simmers will already know that CAS randomized children are often less attractive than their game-bred peers. So the worst may never even occur, but it could happen. Anyhow, I thought it the best way to get worst case scenarios.
Each face (eg. face 1) has five options. Options A, B, C, D and E. The way I'm going to preview these is by face. So you will see all the Face 1 options first, and so on through alien. Click on the face preview picture to download that face (though I'd recommend opening the download link in a new tab or window). The faces are previewed wearing my defaults. Below each face picture is the credit telling you which sim the template was created from and who the creator was. If the face requires any extra files for it to show up/randomize/work properly, I have linked to them beside each face number. I couldn't see any policy regarding those files, and I didn't want to step on any toes, so they are just linked to.
I would like to apologize about the fact that the previews are not uniform in size. As the faces were different shapes and sizes, it was impossible to get them more uniform without ruining the proportions. I do not claim to be any good with Photoshop. At all.
After the individuals, the five complete sets are available for download. There will be a picture from the teaser image with the set number on it. Just click that picture to download. Set 1 includes all the Option A faces, 2 all the option B faces, and so on. There are previews in the .rar files as well.
All the way down at the very end will be a gigantic credit list for everything, as well as the general policy. Do please take the time to read it!
