That seems really strange to me...

I'm sorry your family has to go through all of that when you are grieving. I just can't imagine. *HUGS*

Thank you. I took it upon myself to do this because my brother lives in another state and my sister probably would ask the right questions and my mom, I love her, but she doesn't understand much

Wow. I had no idea it could be that difficult.

I didn't either. I don't remember it being this difficult for when my Pastor passed away, and they were scrambling because they didn't even have a mortuary "picked out". They were literally handling everything a couple of days after he passed away, but their burial date wasn't 20 days after his death.

I'm glad they finally gave you a date, but wow. That does seem incredibly long of a wait to get official word. How long will it take to get the official death certificate?

My dad and I are going to try and come out for the burial. My dad wanted to know what branch of service he was in. He was a Marine, right? He also said he's going to let a couple of his friends out in the Riverside VVA chapter know about the burial, since they're a part of the cemetery's support group.

The death certificate is supposed to come back in 3-7 days. However, they waited until Monday to send the information over rather than doing it Wednesday, Thursday or Friday of last week, so I'm hoping tomorrow or sometime next week. My mom needs it, or some kind of documentation from the mortuary, so that she can put in for survivors benefits with social security, and that needs to happen sooner rather than later. My dad's social security checks come the 2nd Wednesday of the month and for December, that's on the 10th.

Yes he was a Marine. That is very sweet. We'll be meeting at Staging Area 4, but I don't know which committal shelter we'll be at.

As a side note, I still haven't seen that card you sent to my dad. I mean, I remember getting the mail and seeing it, but once it got to my dad, I never saw it again. I'm sure we'll come across it when we're going through his things to clear out of the apartment.

Oh, okay. That's not too bad. But it's weird that it took so long submitting the paperwork for the death certificate in the first place too. Are they that backlogged? Hopefully they can get it to you before Thanksgiving! Oh absolutely! I'd hate for her to have to wait much longer to do all that too.

Sure! I had actually planned on going to the funeral but had a bad headache. Me sitting there all squinty-eyed and achy would NOT have been a good tribute to your dad. That's pretty standard with RNC, my dad said. We went last year for a burial and after meeting at the staging area drove together to the shelter. The grounds there are really so beautiful.

That's so weird. I wish I had kept a photo of it. It must be around somewhere on my computer or hard drive. Hopefully it'll pop up sooner or later :)

It taking this long seems weird to me. You'd think they'd want to bury him as soon as possible. I'm sorry you've had to wait this long.
