Installing Problems

I've just got myself a new laptop with a bigger hard-drive etc. and have been trying for 4 hours to install the Sims 3 basegame. During the installation process it keeps coming up with this message 'Error: Data error (cylic redundancy check)' with the buttons 'Retry' and 'Cancel'. If I recall correctly (and this will sound silly, but bear with me), this is the same error I got when I was installing Making Magic (yes, the TS1 EP). Unfortunately, it means your game disc is shot.

Try cleaning your disk. Sometimes it is just a finger print causing a problem.

Clean the disk, see if that helps. Make sure the cloth is soft and not at all scratchy. If that doesn't work, try to copy the install files to your HD way of install:

If that doesn't work, your disk might be screwed. I don't recommend those disk repair kits, many times they will just make it worse.

But I think EA still allows you to download from them the games that you've registered.

I believe that later on you can uninstall origin, leaving the game, if you have issues. You may have to use a way to bypass the disk check though.

I had the same issue and I did the HD install (copying the files to my HD). It worked!
