Custom content won't work

I've tried to install the Increased Texture Detail & Shine - TS3 Skin Replacements and I did like I was told, downloaded the .cfg-file, put the .package files right where they belong but I just started the game and nothing's changed.

I've made the mistake to try and open the .cfg-file with WinRAR (I've downloaded the unzipped .cfg-file without ( Read more... )

From the "Important Info: please actually read this stuff" section of the download page on MTS:

Unlike TS2, default skins will not automatically update on existing sims! You will have to Change Appearance and Plan outfit (and make actual changes, not just click the checkbox without changing things!) for every outfit type for each and every sim, if you use these skins with existing sims. For this reason, it is much better to use these skins with a fresh neighborhood or with all new families.

Every sim has to be updated manually.

I'm not sure if the second thing you mentioned is causing you problems, but the default skins won't update automatically like they did in Sims 2.

I also read that if you delete the cache files in your My Documents/EA Games/TS3 folder it will cause it to show up on all of the Sims.

About the .cfg and .rar thing, I don't think that's the problem ... but if you would like to try to fix it, try this (I don't really know if this will work but you can give it a try): Open up WinRAR. Select Options > Settings. Click on the "Integration" tab. This should let you select and deselect formats associated with WinRAR. However, I don't know if there's a special section where .cfg files might show up. Poke around and see if you can figure it out. If not, I'm not sure what to do. I'm sure there's a way to fix it, but I'm not really certain. :/

edit: Oh, the other thing you could try to do is to uninstall and then reinstall WinRAR. That might clear any file associations with it that you don't want.

If you have Windows, you can right click on a file, choose properties, and then in the screen that comes up, find where it says "open with:" (it's right under "type of file:") and click the big button that says "change." Then just pick the program you want to be associated with the file.

Oh, be sure when you pick the program to choose the ticky box that says something like, "always use this program to open this file type."

Question on the resource piece. Now it says you are suppose to add the resource under C:\Prgram Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin but my question is when you install the Resource file do I install it as a Resource.cfg or as a Resource.txt?

If I tried it install it as a .cfg file it tries to change the original from the game ...which I heard is a big no no.
