It's morning. Simon has been awake for a little while yet; Kaylee is still asleep.

Though it's anyone's guess how much longer she will be, with the smells of coffee and cooking starting to pervade the little cabin.

Based on the way she's still huddled, lump-like, under the blankets, it looks as though it'll be a while.

"Or we could eat early, so we don't trip and break our necks comin' back." Another strawberry.

"I'm in favor of not breaking our necks," he agrees.

There's a little coffee left in the pot; he reaches for it, gauges the amount, and glances at Kaylee. "More coffee?"

"Think I'm good, xiexie." She cuts off another piece of toast. "We can make another pot later."

He pours the last of the coffee into his own mug instead, and drains about half of it.

It's pleasant, sitting here and finishing breakfast, and knowing that for the rest of the day there's nothing at all they have to do unless they feel like it; almost decadent.

"You're gonna be awful awake," she says serenely, attention on her plate.

Cheerful, while spearing the last bite of French toast: "It'll make a nice change."

"I was plannin' on goin' back to bed myself."

"I might join you," he says.

And adds, just a trifle too innocently, "Unless you're very tired."

"Think I must've slept for ten hours just about." Kaylee delicately replaces fork and knife on the plate. "I was mostly plannin' on bein' a little languorous and lazy. But you're welcome to mess with that."

"Well."

And he's grinning, now.

"I was hoping you might say that."

She shifts, bringing her feet to the floor. "Well. You cooked -- "

And leans over to kiss his cheek. "So I'll clean. And then I think I might have some tired comin' on."

He leans forward, brushes a kiss across her cheek in return.

And reaches to put his knife and fork neatly across his own plate.

She picks up the plates and heads for the kitchen.

Humming.

Simon smiles, and looks out the window at the depthless blue of the late spring sky, and isn't really surprised to find himself humming the same tune.

It's a lazy morning, gradually stretching like a sunbeam into a long warm afternoon.

And nowhere they have to be except here.
