Butthurt Ahoy!

In a serious case of WTFery, simsecret gets hacked, and the previous 3 weeks of secret posts gets deleted, and all but one mod (whose journal was hijacked for this) were removed.

This was picked up pretty quickly, but the Butthurt Bandit decided to strike again. But again, the mods noticed quickly, though more secret posts were deleted

That's ridiculous. If it is TSR FAs being butthurt - why attack simsecret? SIMSECRET did not make the secrets posts pertaining to coconut and PMBD, etc. If anything, wouldn't you try to hack THEM? Simsecret just reports the secrets! WAY TO KILL THE MESSENGER, TSR.

My guess is because enough of Coconut's secrets were posted with screencaps, and enough anti TSR people view simsecret. Now, unless anyone has screencaps of those secrets, the general internets has no proof that TSR did anything wrong.

Pretty ugly, if you ask me.

I was beginning to wonder if this wasn't T$R related, since my guess is that all the posts showing coconut's stuff would have been deleted.

I guess we at least know it's not the Russian hackers.

I hope the mods changed passwords, etc to something inconspicuous. More, I hope LJ abuse catches the hackers, and does something about it. I'm not sure what they can do though. If it's the T$R guys are responsible, they're safe in Sweden, right?

Because LJ's servers and such are in the U.S., all LJ users pretty much have to abide by U.S. law in addition to the laws in their own locale. Basically, just because TSR is based in Sweden doesn't mean that LJ doesn't have the jurisdiction to punish it.

HOWEVER! It appears as though LJ can/will only permaban a hacker's journal. Chances are, whoever did this doesn't have an LJ, and if they do being banned isn't going to do much. Once I have more definitive information, I'll look in to any legal action I can take.

And I do have new evidence against TSR: my account there has been banned.

Well, TSR's attempts to plant "viruses" on PMBD are pretty well known, so this does seem in keeping with their general reaction. "We're butthurt, so we will do illegal stuff and say it is justified."

I wonder if the TSR servers run windows or something. Seems like non windows machines are pretty resistant to viruses/worms, etc. I'm curious as to why they think this kind of behavior is justified.
