When mods get a god complex...

As all of you who participate in simsecret know, this week was a bit of a clusterfuck. hidden_kitten apparently gets a stick up her ass and decides that she will be the sole judge of what is and isn't a secret. This might be okay, if (1) there was a consensus among the mods ( which there clearly wasn't), or (2) they had done a poll and the community members agreed to such a "crackdown," as they call it. I will point out a little bit of bonus lulz where sinthe tries to backpedal and say that she doesn't appreciate anyone insinuating that there was a schism between the mods. WELL, GEE. I can't imagine where people got that idea, considering she said above that she didn't agree with it and didn't know what was going on. I'd call that dissent among the mods, wouldn't you?

In the suggestion thread, people rightfully wonder what the hell is going on, but don't get much of a response. Which I suppose is better than how they usually handle things. Also, it's nothing new for them to decide that a submission does not qualify as a secret if they don't recognize it. If the MODS don't recognize it, it must not be Sims-related, right? WRONG. simsecret involves the ENTIRE Simming community, from several different sites. You can't reasonably expect to know every single reference in the entire community.

The kicker? Besides for there being less secrets, this week's secrets look NO DIFFERENT than they normally do. I especially like that apparently this secret was too bitchy, but yet Number 3 was let in?? Where is the logic in that? Oh, right, there is none.

Throughout the comments in this week's post, people complain about how arbitrary the secret admission process seems to be and point out that the ones that were let in are no different than the ones that were excluded. hidden_kitten says that they asked people for suggestions, but that most of them are screened, which tells us nothing, because I seriously doubt all of the screened comments are people asking them to issue this "crackdown." Oh, she also points out that 100 secrets of bitching is pathetic. If you hate it so much, WHY ARE YOU A MOD? You signed up for this, remember??

I point out the rules for next week's submission post, wherein it is stated that:

4) No spam, memes, or lolcats (yes, lolsims count). Butthurt counts as spam, because you are whining and no one cares.
5) Please, no cruelty. Examples include YOU ARE FAT and RACIST NAZI WHORE.

Oh, okay. So now the mods get to decide what constitutes butthurt and whining and THOSE won't be allowed either?? When I speak up about this, I first get told by sinthe that when I mod a community, I can make whatever rules I want, and then kingmike1225 says that it's THEIR community and those are the rules. Also, I'm apparently being snotty. If I linked here to all the times the mods have flat out been nasty and horrible to people in the comments, I'd run out of room. Besides for those few comments, the mods have been suspiciously quiet about the whole thing.

Last I checked, without the members, you HAVE NO COMMUNITY. Why all of a sudden did the mods decide what will and will not be included? Hell, size limits I can understand, and I can understand the "no real people" rule, because that was VOTED ON. Ideally, the mods of a community such as this one have the easiest job in the world. POST WHAT IS SUBMITTED unless it breaks a size rule, is a real person, or violates LJ's TOS. I can scroll past spam. Hopefully, they will listen to the wants of the community and at least do a poll seeing if the people really agree with this "crackdown." I highly doubt that they do, given the flavor of this week's comments.

P.S. I realize this is written in a very grudgy, unbiased fashion. I do not care.

secrets, butthurt
