And I do loves me some happy cows, lord knows, but I haven't seen grass-fed beef anywhere in Champaign. Maybe I should check the campus butcher shop (yay for living in the middle of nowhere = giant farm school).

I don't always stick to my principles and get the well-treated animal meat either. Since I'm in grad school, the price point can be too much, and when I go out to eat forget about it -- nowhere here advertises they serve humanely-treated meats.
You might want to check a health food store or co-op, if you want happy meat and are having trouble finding it in the grocery store. Frequently, though the co-ops only order what they know they can sell so it's essentially on a pre-order basis. Support your ag kids first though. I should see what's going on with ours. I think their meat sales are in the fall, though.

I'd be even happier purchasing meat directly from a local farmer's market and when we've got more income coming in, I'll happily pay the excess.
On a similar note, I just read a horrifying article about Kobe beef production in Japan from Gourmet. It's not like everyone thinks it is (or like I thought it was); I know I won't be eating any Kobe beef unless I can identify the farm as a cruelty-free one.
