One morning while I was getting ready for work, the song Rose Garden popped into my head. (Lyrics include: I beg your pardon, I never promised you a rose garden.) I loved this song when I was a youngster but I haven't heard it in years. I bought a couple different versions tonight on iTunes including the original by Lynn Anderson and a remake by k. Gah! I remember that song.

And as soon as you mentioned it, I immediately starting thinking of other songs from that era:
Harper Valley PTA, anyone? The Night that the Lights went out in Georgia? Bad, Bad Leroy Brown and Time in a Bottle?
And, of course, Ode to Billy Joe!

Could you answer me a technical question, Miss Dee? Once you buy and, I presume, download an iTunes song, can you then burn it onto a CD? Cause I don't have an iPod and have no intention of getting one. I have seen iTunes gift cards, though. I'd love to buy a song here and there but only if I can burn them later.

I forgot all about Harper Valley PTA. And all of the songs you mentioned were on the AM radio all the time. What about Billy Don't Be A Hero?

I'll have to check with Juannie on your iTunes question. I'm not very savvy about such things. I love my iPod. Didn't think I would be one of those people but it's such a clever little gadget.

Of course I remember that song! I bet they're not playing it on the American Base Iraq radio station...

That makes me think of the scene in Good Morning, Vietnam when they start playing Perry Como and Mantovani when they kick Kronauer off the air. Don't want to inspire critical thinking or inflame anyone's subversive tendencies!
