sakjljlfj I just posted asking for Black Swan thoughts. WORD ON THE LITTLE DETAILS. I freaked the hell out when I realized just what imagery pops up in the club scene.

Also I EPed Natalie Portman's character in m_m and Rog tagged with the ballet company director and it's breaking me into tiny tiny molecules.

OMG I KNOW. *full-body shudder*

And then later, with the two of them in her room, the pattern that prickles over Nina's skin -- I am surprised I did not scream aloud.

I thought Black Swan was sort of disappointing - at least, in the way where I thought it was very good, but simply not as HOLY SHIT MIND-BLOWING TERRIFYING BRILLIANT OMG ETC. as I had been expecting from the hype. Likewise, I was kind of expecting all this cgi trickery I'd heard about to be a lot more discreet and creep-inducing, and found most of it to be about as subtle as a bunch of neon flashing arrows and signs saying DID U C WAT I DID THERE?.

That said Natalie Portman was in-fucking-credible. That metamorphosis in the dressing room? Yeah, chills. If I weren't so starry-eyed over Hailee Steinfeld right now, Natalie Portman could have the Oscar just for those five seconds of controlled breathing.

The first movement of the painting's eyes and the skin patterning especially I found subtle enough and well done. :)

And YES to the dressing room shift.

Yeah, I will say that Portman sold EVERYTHING for me. The way I felt watching the film, everything that was zany or over-the-top was just ... me getting to see through her eyes, and her being a flawed narrator.

This. I couldn't help buying even the parts that went over the top enough to jar me because Natalie Portman sold her character so hard and it was all through her eyes for me.

I went in with some healthy skepticism, but what amazing casting for this film.
