I went to see Black Swan with
agonistes earlier today, and in retrospect I can definitely say that I should have paid more attention to the fact that Darren Aronofsky was the director before I sat down in the theater.
First off, I can see exactly why Natalie Portman was nominated for the Best Actress Golden Globe, and I am betting she will be nominated for the Oscar, and I will be very surprised if she does not win one or both. HFS, y'all.
Amazing work with the costuming, especially the scarves, camisoles/tanks, and the eye makeup for the Black Swan.
I nearly jumped out of my seat when the first of the clever CGI tricks was pulled -- I highly recommend paying attention to the smallest details, because they are there, and they are significant.
I don't think I will ever see Swan Lake in the same way-- if I ever do see it in a live performance instead of a televised one, that is, which is something I've had on my list for a while.
I also don't think I need to watch Princess Tutu now. Ever. :) Seriously, I'm good.
Oh, and for the record, if I go see this film again (I might), I am wearing gloves the whole time.
In conclusion -- a really excellent movie, but unnerving as hell.
The theater, by the way, was the
Mayan, which has always been a good place to see a film the few times I've been there. The decor is very much in theme and very much overdone accordingly, but it's fun.
