Finding Rufus had been one of those priorities that had been far too easily bumped down, down, down by recent events. Too much time, too many disasters, and he was surprised to find that the good once-President was still in his compliant state, still wanting to help and be a good brother ( ... )

Mother would have more than words. Mother would have tentacles.

The call startled him; Rufus glanced over quickly, momentarily suspicious. When Kadaj emerged into the light, the suspicion flickered into annoyance instead - he had been keeping an eye out, and a lifetime of assassins had not predisposed him to taking well to being snuck up on especially by the remnants even by his brothers.

The sight of Kadaj startled him, silver hair and green eyes discordant to his senses. He tensed, something clamouring for attention in the back of his head.

"...Brother." He made no move towards the other. "You wished to see me?"

Mother always had tentacles.

Oh, that was troubling, the way the other startled at the sound of his voice. Did Rufus not sense him at all when he was there? His mouth twitched slightly, his confidence faltering when he met Rufus's eyes, their intentions veiled, mood sealed behind blue contacts. Something didn't feel quite right.

"I did. Though..." It was left to Kadaj to advance, slipping out of the intense light and into something a little more neutral. "You don't seem particularly pleased. Are you unwell? Worried? Whatever is going on down here, it will be resolved for mother's sake, I assure you."

And Kadaj loved them.

Was he that transparent? Could Kadaj see the doubts that swirled in his head, the voices that whispered that this wasn't how it was supposed to be?

"Worried," he lied easily. "You weren't particularly pleased with the way I've handled affairs."

Oh yes. He hadn't forgotten Kadaj's threats.

He let him saunter closer, getting a tingle of deja vu. Where had he seen this before? A place with wooden walls and wooden floor, a wheelchair, the Turks on the ground...
