Planning

Seeing as how I'm graduating in December 2013 and my car will be completely 100% paid off that month as well, I have chosen January 2014 as the month that I'm moving out of my parent's place. My plan is to continue with school -- get that there teaching license and such. Probably I would start with that in fall of 2014, though ( Read more... )

Is he actually IN Raleigh or is he just close to Raleigh? Because if you were close enough to the state line you could conceivably live in North Carolina but teach in Virginia (or South Carolina, if they count). Also, what are the options for teachers from Virginia to transfer their teaching license to a different state that isn't covered by their current license? Is it another few YEARS of school all over again, or is it just like a refresher course or a separate exam?

He's in a suburb a few miles west of Raleigh. If I taught near Roanoke it probably wouldn't be so bad, maybe? The few residents of Roanoke that I know are uber-Christians, though, of the worst variety.

Most teaching licenses, from what I've seen far, are a matter of having your application go approved. If you don't fit some qualification I assume you can take the class or whatever in order to meet that qualification. From my research, Virginia and North Carolina have similar qualifications for licensure (although I don't know if NC requires endorsement courses for social studies -- it looks like there's just five social studies-specific classes you have to take on teaching social studies instead).

Roanoke is really not that close to the state line, at least not THAT state line, but some place like Danville would be a lot closer. Bear in mind, Southern Virginia and North Carolina in general are technically in Bible Belt territory, so you are likely to find plenty of uber-Christians wherever you go down there.
