[Why hello there, video, you have come to life. On your little PNG screens, you can observe a young purple-haired teen with a choppy haircut sitting against the bark of what looks to be a very large tree any lumberjack would stake his saw to have. Cradled in his arms is a Metapod, and he is smiling cheerfully into the camera.]Greetings, fellow ( Read more... )

[Oh gosh, Skarmory thinks that Metapod look absolutely delicious. It's just staring intently at it for the entire video. Winona... doesn't even notice that yet. Wonderful. She's waving cheerfully!]

Hello, young Bugsy of Azalea! Is the PNG not one of the most useful contraptions? I never believed I could keep in contact with such foreign regions in this manner, let alone with text. I am very glad I got one to see people like yourself from regions such as Johto. I hope I will see more of you!

... Oh! It would be helpful if I introduced myself. I am Winona of Fortree City, Hoenn. [She curtsies.] It is a pleasure!

[... Winona then reels forward as Skarmory dives for the PNG, trying to eat the tasty bug on the other side.]

Skarmory!! Calm yourself--!

[SSSSSSSHHHHTTT. Static for a few minutes. The feed then returns with Winona's hair looking a bit disheveled, and Skarmory nowhere to be seen. It was presumably in its Poke Ball.]

Ah, I'm terribly sorry! Skarmory just can't seem to control itself at times. It is one of my... feistier Pokemon, unfortunately. [Awkward laugh.]

Th-that's okay! I'm pretty used to it by now... Luckily for us, Skarmory's attack missed. Hahahaha!

You said you're the gym leader of Fortree, didn't you? Ahh, I loved Fortree City..! [Bing! He's excited now.] I decided to take a trip just a while ago, and I went exploring through parts of the Hoenn region. It was a big step for me since I've only traveled through the Johto and Kanto regions, but I'm sure glad I pushed my boundaries. Fortree City was by far my favorite. The trees were tall and it was a bug Pokemon paradise. The idea of living in a tree house like they have there sounds like my kinda thing. I'd probably have no problem at all adapting to that kind of life. Shame I didn't meet you while I was there.

Bug Pokemon do seem to be very attracted to the city! We see many Volbeat and Illumise at times. Their dance is nearly as lovely as the birds in the wind, what with their illuminating bodies. [She thinks they're so pretty!]

Fortree is very expansive, and perhaps the most unique city in all of Hoenn. I've lived here ever since I was a little girl, and I would not change that for the world. [Siiiigh~]

Perhaps if you were to come back one day, we could meet!

[As a stark contrast to Winona's mellow feed (... for the most part), the first thing Bugsy will see from Surge's is the lieutenant laughing in his face.]

Oh, so it's another shrimp from Johto! First that Whitney chick, and now you and those... wimpy bug-types. Dormant in winter? Electric-types are strong through every season! Sorry to tell you, shrimp!

[His hands fold over his chest.] Right, and the name's Lt. Surge from Kanto!

[Why is everyone so cruel to the bugs today :'|] It almost sounds like you want us to prove you wrong. We've been conserving our energy for when we really need it! I suggest you think twice before you call bug-types wimpy, because they're full of surprises that can pulverize those who are caught off-guard by their assumptions.

I think I know who you are. Well, not personally, but you're the gym leader of Vermillion City, right?

[Because... Because it's fun. But just wait until a certain new Pokemon is allowed in the RP. THEN Surge will change his mind.]

Pulverize? A bug-type, pulverizing? Don't make me laugh, kid. If you think a Scyther could beat a Raichu, you've got another thing coming for you! So I've got one question for you. Do you think Metapod's a strong Pokemon? [He would. laugh. his ass off.]

That's it! The gym leader of Vermilion City, unlike any other! [He points to himself with his thumb proudly. Pompous jerk.]

[YOU'LL BE SORRY. You'll all be sorry.]

It's difficult, but not impossible. Raichu has a type advantage, so naturally Scyther has to watch out for Raichu's electric attacks. But how about its evolved form, Scizor? Once Scyther evolves, it loses its flying type and trades it in for a steel type. It sacrifices speed for killer attack and impenetrable defense. I'm not so sure Raichu stands much of a chance anymore.

As for Metapod... To be truthfully honest, Metapod is pretty vulnerable, but not without its own lines of defense. Its favorite trick to play is protect itself the best it can. It has to prepare for evolution, after all.

Oh, another Johto gym leader! Hello, my name is Meissa and I have a pidgey I call Sitara. It likely would not be a good idea to send her to Azalea...she usually will not consume bugs, but I do not know how she would react.

Nice to meet you! Wow, a Pidgey that doesn't like eating bugs? Now that's my kind of Pidgey. The fact that you have a bird Pokemon shouldn't prevent you from sending her to Azalea Town! You should feel free to do whatever you like. Just because I live here and train bug-types doesn't make it wrong for your Pidgey to fly here.

Greetings, Bugsy! [He bows.] I see you have also joined the network. I was skeptical at first, but I've seen how greatly communication has improved thanks to these devices and Silph Net. Technology progresses so quickly now.

It is good to see you are still wholeheartedly committed to bug-type Pokémon. As honored gym leaders, our devotion to the Pokémon types we specialize in influences our abilities in battle.

I hope you were able to enjoy the holidays. My bird Pokémon also do not enjoy the cooler temperatures, so I sympathize with your anticipation for spring weather. Well then, stay in good health, Bugsy. It is good hearing from you.

Falkner! [He's grinning happily.] It's nice hearing from you, too. Winter really bites for birds and bugs alike... I'm sure we'll welcome spring with the same intentness. Soon enough the forests will be teeming with their life again.

Maybe this device will help me stay more in touch with the world around me. We'll see! By the way, what have you been up to lately? Keeping yourself busy as usual?

[He smiles fondly while crossing his arms.] Yes, spring will mark the return of many Pokémon. It is quite the sight to see as flocks of birds fill the air riding on the changing winds. I also agree that bug Pokémon are just as welcome; after we've finished installing an extension to the park, every spring we expect to see a few pollinating the flowers.

As for myself, sometime last year, a generous breeder donated an egg to our gym. Er... to our surprise, a Wailmer hatched and we have been raising it in the pond outside of Sprout Tower. When the calf has matured enough, we will send it off outside of New Bark Town. I'm afraid it's no bug Pokémon, but if you would like to see it for yourself, you are welcome to visit.

Wailmer? Gee, I wonder why the breeder chose your gym of all gyms. Maybe he equated birds with eggs? I hope that pond is big enough for the little... uh, big guy! It's a pretty big pond, if I remember. Anyway, I'd love to see it. Maybe I can come by soon? It's been forever and a day since I last stepped foot in Violet City, and I'm not especially busy these days, so I don't see any problem.

... a spider web, huh? I never thought of it that way. I like that. Also ... I couldn't agree more; spring couldn't get here any sooner... [lookin' kinda sleepy]

But hello, Bugsy. It's good to hear from you again.

It's a nice metaphor, isn't it? Winter turns me into a shut-in most days. I'm pretty sure that's one of the major reasons why we haven't spoken in such a long time, but regardless, I'm glad we're back in touch.
