Oooh, I will have to check out that book.

And oh, only one TV? That would be HARD, even with me and Tyson, and we normally like most of the same things.

Oooh, I will have to check out that book.

It's so good. It was clear early on that it didn't fit the criteria for the State anthology, but I was so into it that--shhhh!--I read the rest anyway.

And oh, only one TV? That would be HARD, even with me and Tyson, and we normally like most of the same things.

It's a challenge, but it seems to be working, with some compromise by all parties--I watch some things online and make sure they can keep their rock-solid 10:00 news/napping-on-the-couch date, and they either watch my shows with me or banish themselves to other parts of the house. (However, Leverage isn't on Netflix Instant this time around! No good! I think I've tracked down a rerun of it in the middle of the night, though. Crossing fingers.)

Heh, yeah I thought The Hangover was an odd choice, too. But at least it wasn't It's Complicated. Saw that movie yesterday and HATED IT WITH THE FIERY PASSION OF ONE THOUSAND SUNS. Seriously. How is Nancy Myers a working writer/director?

Also, I have not actually seen Avatar, but I thought that Up in the Air should have won every award it was up for, so BOO for not winning best drama.

Good luck with the script/possible job!

As you know, I actually liked the movie fine--but...really? Over all of the delightful, substantial, well-written comedies/musicals it was up against? If I had written anything else in that category, I'd be kicking people in the face today.

But at least it wasn't It's Complicated. Saw that movie yesterday and HATED IT WITH THE FIERY PASSION OF ONE THOUSAND SUNS.

Iiiiinteresting. Al saw it recently, too, and she love love loved it. I'd say I'm probably more likely to agree with you than to agree with her about this sort of thing, but it's not like you and I always see eye to eye on these things either. No se, man.

How is Nancy Myers a working writer/director?

I'll admit, I don't generally love her stuff. Except The Parent Trap.

Also, I have not actually seen Avatar

Avatar's tough, because scriptwise, it is awful. AWFUL. But it's also pretty amazing, in lots of ways, so that I can't totally begrudge it all the hype/awards. It's frustrating, frankly. (Also, so many better ( ... )

I don't know who does Zac's stage makeup, but they need to be thrown into a chocolate river -- because he looks like a friggin' oompa-loompa. Understandable when you're filming, but it didn't work on that type of camera with that kind of lighting. Only he's not an oompa loompa because he's TALL. Good gravy!

(Also? He needs to stop with the ciggies, too. But that's just me being a snob.)

SO glad to hear that things are going well with your writing! ACT III!!! You GO girl!

You should get a job at a theatre bar and spend your downtime writing scripts on napkins a la Aaron Sorkin! ;)

You funny girl, you. :)

Only he's not an oompa loompa because he's TALL.

I have a mixed reaction to this statement: first, I want to say GUH YES HE IS TALL and then get the vapors, and second, I want to quote Richard Gilmore: "You're tall!" But I imagine that's just me.

(Also? He needs to stop with the ciggies, too. But that's just me being a snob.)

If this is you being a snob, then I don't think any of us want to be...uh, indiscriminate? Because, ew, man. Major points off in my book.

We should talk. We haven't traded stories/notes in awhile.

...but not become a drug addict, I suppose? Just checking.

Re the brainstorming of ideas to pitch: we could get together to do the 30-30-30 exercise my travel writing teacher uses

Yes! That sounds both productive and like a fun outing. Count me in.

But the idea is not to let yourself get caught up in minutiae.

Very helpful--I find that I just get overwhelmed and paralyzed by the whole querying/pitching concept, and I don't know where to start. But this sounds like...well, a place to start!

Perhaps a good outing for us tomorrow?

I may be having lunch with Judy - not sure - will keep you posted. But since we usually do afternoons in any case...

Did you watch Bones last week? Did I miss that? Anyway, I was going to ask you what you thought of Angela/Wendell after this week.

I haven't read Rebecca Stead's book, but I will put it on my list. I'm actually working on an idea for a YA novel/series, so I feel like I need to do some YA reading for research. Thanks for the rec!

I did watch Bones, but I didn't write about it.

Anyway, I sort of feel like I could go either way with Angela these days. I like her and Hodgins together fine, and I also like her and Wendell together fine, and I actually always like old-school single promiscuous Angela, too. (What I'm not that into: new-fangled single celibate Angela. Is that bad? I just miss her being fun, and only pleasantly crazy.) So I don't know--I was a little excited last week when I thought, for a minute, that they might do the unpopular thing and let Hodgins move on, but then I'm sure I'll be happy to see their story go the way I now expect it to go. If that makes sense.

Ooh, awesome! If you need more recs, let me know. I did a lot of reading this year.
