I'm still making an effort to get out more and see folks. I think I burnt out after my first week of social madness though.

I spent last night laughing and cooking with the lovely luvenditti. I think at one point I was laughing so hard I was almost crying. It was nice to eat in rather than out, even if I didn't know what we were making until 30 minutes ( Read more... )

I'm wondering about the same thing on your side of the pond ....

if you're bringing a laptop then there's several options

my housemate has a pay as you go wireless dongle with 3 - it's as about £10 per voucher and seems to be fairly generous - the dongle is about £40 to start off with - no contract, so if you only use it for the trip then you're not stuck with it.

you can also sign up to BT openzone which has fairly good wireless coverage and which has a variety of tariffs, the most expensive is about £40 for a month - as long as you have a credit card you're fine!

Plenty of places - Starbucks, McDonalds etc have wireless access, some you pay for, some is free.

Any kind of cell phone plan is vilely expensive over here to call the US/Canada - we don't use the same band in europe as you do in the US, and you end up paying huge prices, and the person you're calling also pays to receive the calls.

if you've more questions drop me a line!

Pay-as-you go wireless over the cellular network seems to be where I'm netting out at.

Voice is less important since most of my clients seem to be blackberry, email and MSN addicts. I have a blackberry that works in the UK that I could use in a pinch for that; even at $2/minute plus roaming!

I was thinking laptop too -- finding access to the internet, even in the boonies, shouldn't be too hard, and if you use a web-based account, you could always use a library computer if needed or something.
