I'm currently reading The End of the Line by Charles Clover, environment editor at The Daily Telegraph in the UK. The book looks at fisheries industries worldwide, and how fish get from the ocean to our plates. It's an eye-opener, even for me.

Just because a horrible company does one thing right is not sufficient reason to support them.

Would you buy Fair Trade chocolate from Wal-Mart?

Speaking of Walmart... same dilemma. They pledged last year, I think, to source all of the fish for their USA market, and possibly North American, from MSC-certified fisheries. I don't believe that any other retailer has made this commitment and MSC-certified products are not as easy to come by as we might think/hope/expect. Basically, Walmart may be one of the average North American consumer's best options to support sustainable fisheries. But their social, marketing, and business policies leave much to be desired ( ... )
