I took a glimpse into Hell today.

I've familiarized myself with certain horrific episodes and incidences in human history, and have a little acquaintance with the more troubling aspects of the human psyche.

And yet somehow I remained just a little smug about my country in some aspects--let's hold up for example the Nazi atrocities of the Holocaust, ( Read more... )

Not familiar with all the examples you included but I'm very familiar with the sickening feeling of learning what most are unaware of and wishing I still was, too. The world can start to look like a pretty nasty place. I don't do well with nihilism, either. Just don't find it useful.

There are moments I'm glad I took a class on Homeland Security that delved into shady shit our government had done... if only so random links to it don't surprise me at 5am. *sigh*

Somehow the whole 'massacring war veterans in Washington DC' still creeps me out more- probably because people stumble onto the shady pseudo-science madness more often.
