I'm sure I'm the 18th person to send you this, but it's too good for me to take the chance of you missing it: Fantasy Armor and Lady Bits -- a real armorer discusses the good, the bad, and the ludicrous of armor for women.
I think they're all fine ideas. "Abortion rights" needs more meat to it, maybe, but given how badly it's been under fire, it's clearly pretty relevant in 2012.
Because it's Wiscon, it's not going to be as polarized as it would be at most cons. Or rather, of course it will be: but you'll have almost exclusively an audience from the pro-choice camp, with mabye a few pro-lifers piping up awkwardly near the end. I think it's the best possible opportunity to talk about this at a con.
I would like to see "abortion rights under fire in 2012". Or a red state vs. blue state discussion. I think your perspective in KS is very different from people in WI or MA or CA. If you do this, I'd very much like for you to be on the panel itself. I think you have more experience and perspective than just about anybody I know.
(Saw your e-mail & FB message. LJ is just friendlier to my 2005 Powerbook G4 than FB is. Hopefully I'll have the Macbook back on Monday or Tuesday...)
Yeah, abortion rights--I need to know what spin to put on it. "Abortion rights under fire and what can you do about it?" "The language of the abortion issue?" "Myths about abortion?"
"Modern America without Roe v. Wade"? Because a lot of women are effectively already living without it, either because the politics of their state has made it impossible for women's health clinics to exist and offer the option. Or laws require parental consent. Or women are being jailed and charged with murder for miscarrying. Etc.
I think "language" and "myths" can both be incorporated into such a discussion. Don't need to talk about "myths" exclusively, because this is the very much the choir we're preaching to.
I'm very much interested in what I can do about it.
