Maybe I'm wrong, but the older I get the more I think that no one ever really feels grown up. We all still make stupid mistakes and act like dopes and feel dumb regardless of how old we are, and birthdays just remind us of that. I think it's just what makes us human. I do hope that you had a better birthday than your grumpy mood icon suggests, though.
See, hearing this from parents makes me feel better. I often assume it's my childlessness and/or back-in-schoolness that causes me to feel like a kid faking it at the grown-up table.
Fuck growing up. Having a child's sense of wonder at the universe is far more important. So is a young person's sense of hope; of unlimited possibilities; of unbounded energy; of sheer joy at being alive.
When was the last time you saw an adult chase a butterfly? Make a daisy chain? Really, deeply, truly taste every bite of a double-chocolate double-dip malted milk? Laugh until his sides hurt at Laurel & Hardy / Buster Keaton / Charlie Chaplin / (or in my own case) a perfect performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream - on Midsummer's Night, in London, outdoors in St. James' Park?
Huh? Huh? Huh?
Anyone who says they're all grown up either a) is delusional, or b) has lost all sense of humor, and c) is definitely, positively not someone I'd ever want to know.

Me, I don't feel more grown up, just that the youth these days are getting more and more populous.
