So, um...based on your completely random sampling, post-apocalypse less than half of births will work out okay. Sucks to be post-apocalypse humans I guess.
So when you say "7 vaginal births" but that you haven't pulled one out yet, does that mean you just watched someone else pull out 7 babies, or they were squeezed out with no pulling, or is there some other distinction I'm not privy to?
I'm glad you are having more fun with the baby-havers than you were having in some of your other rotations.
Generally, the baby is squeezed until the head pops free, often this requires making a big cut in the vagina to increase space. Once the head pops free the doctor, mid wife, med student, cab driver, sucks some the of gunk out of babies breathing parts and then pulls it the rest of the way free by pulling it down and then up to dislodge the shoulders. For a first born the process of moving the baby out can be very slow. I actually wonder if with the advent of c-sections we will select for larger babies until none of them will escape properly. Babies are also larger with diabetes and that is rising as well. People who have had babies before can squirt out a baby with relative ease and low injury to themselves. This was not the case for one patient who had a baby over six pounds followed 11 years later by a baby over 8 pounds. The baby wouldn't come out so she went to c-section. Having a baby is one of the most dangerous things a woman can do, it can be a very life threatening situation. Sometimes the placenta poisons her and she could
