Had a lovely birthday-type day, yesterday, and am about to dash out the door in pursuit of some things that need to be done before the weekend takes hold. Like get my car key replaced so that I can move said car. But, first, to prove that I am not nearly as shallow as I pretend ( Read more... )

afp, birthday, film, music, general awesome, boyfriend now gets his own tag, general silliness

So true about brooding in real life!

You know, the brooding isn't even all that interesting in fiction. Edward anyone?

Glad you had a good b-day!

It has his moments, but I quite agree.

Thank you!

You are completely right about deep, brooding men. In RL, they are more trouble than they're worth. As muses go though, they are totally awesome.

So I must choose between a functional human being and a functioning muse... Le sigh.

It's funny, isn't it? I like my fantasy men to be brooding, loner types with a hint of darkness. But the reality of such a man would drive anyone nuts: insecurity, selfishness, arrogance, angst, bleurgh. Thanks, but no thanks. I can find all those qualities in myself! And no, the 'love of a good woman' will not miraculously change them *snerk*. 'Nice' guys who can make you laugh and who would take care of you are infinitely better. Wish I had realised this some years ago. Would have saved myself a bit of heartache. But, I guess you have to live and learn.

I have a lot of deeply screwed up friends (I often feel like a magnet for the misunderstood/confused/slightly mad people of the world), and while I love them all dearly it can become a bit overwhelming. I can't imagine living with someone like that all of the time-we would hate each other within a week. I have more patience with fictional people than I do with real ones (possibly why I have had way more fictional loves than real ones). So, yeah... brooding can be interesting, but only in teeny tiny doses.

*squidges you* I'm so happy you had such a wonderful birthday! And thank you for making us all laugh about broodiness. You have done that young man a valuable service to explain that sexy =/= broody. Unless David Boreanaz is doing it, and then only sometimes.

I've been watching Bones this summer, and am finding David Boreanaz way hotter now than he ever was in Buffy and/or Angel. But Booth has the witty banter thing down pat with the occasional hints of dark broodiness. I think he's more Joss than the Joss character.
