I heard Metatron's voice as that annoying guy from The Princess Bride in the "demon handcuffs" line. ANGEL CUFFS are awesome. Oh Sam, you really don't want to know what's going on in there. That's a pretty poor attempt at small talk :) I guess Dean got access to some Hellfire in his little vacation and he got enough angel blades to make a whole arsenal. Awesome.
I didn't think it was too violent. More violent than the other chapters, but it was good. Metaton deserves it and it's cool to see Dean's demoness coming out and he seems to be enjoying himself.
Omg, that "small talk" between Sam/Cas/Gabriel was painful! LOL, I never really could get it to work, but I didn't want to make the whole chapter about Dean and Metatron and I wanted to plant the seed of Cas & Gabe communicating with heaven and everyone thinking about how to save Dean (trial vs. demon tablet). It wasn't the best scene I've ever written, lol, but I guess it got the points across.
And thank you VERY much for addressing the violence. I haven't actually read too much fanfic myself (and none re: Demon!Dean) for fear of it influencing my own work, so I wasn't sure how it compares to what's out there and how I should rate it. I'm going to change the "STRONG Violence" in the A/N to just "more violence" and do you think I should keep the "R" rating?
I'm not sure about the rating, maybe keep the 'R' just in case, you don't want someone to read it who was trying to avoid something like that and someone who's disappointed at the lack of violence, can find something else.
I didn't think the violence was all that graphic. Mostly threats and you can guess at what Dean's doing with all his tools, but you aren't spelling it out in graphic detail. Broken bones and gunshot wounds are pretty standard right? I think Sam's imagining much worse than is actually happening.
Thanks again, this makes me feel a lot better. I kept the R rating because, as you said, I'd rather err on the side of caution. I also didn't think the violence was *too* bad, certainly nothing worse than what is already portrayed on the show itself. But since it was a significant change from what I had written so far, I thought it needed an extra caution. You never know what might trigger someone else, and I would never want this story to be anything other than enjoyable to the reader.
Yay! Thank you so much! I work really hard on trying to make the conversations sound authentic, so it thrills me to no end that it seems to be coming through! THANK YOU! :))
This was a difficult chapter for me to write because Dean's always been a hero in my mind, ALWAYS (not that he doesn't make mistakes, I'm not completely blind! lol). But Dean's struggle with the dichotomy of hero and villain fighting each other for dominance within him is what I find so captivating about the upcoming season! And lord knows Jensen's got the acting chops to pull it off! One of my very favorite scenes ever was when Dean was driving in the car and actually smiling through the tears after Bobby's death. Again, he pulls dual emotions off so beautifully!
So anyway, yeah, this chapter was hard, but I think it turned out well overall.
This chapter reminded me of "On The Head of a Pin" one of my favourite episodes :) Dean has definitely got the ability to pull off the challenge ahead of him and it will be a challenge and one I can't wait to witness.
Wow, I wasn't trying to get anywhere close to "Head of a Pin" figuring if I had it would have been too obvious and I would have failed miserably, lol. But that's a huge compliment, thank you!
