I loved this episode. I liked Serenity because it was really a good beginning -- tons of background information & such -- but this episode had everything that it lacked. I loved the dialogue & Mal was much funnier -- Mal's now on the list of my favourite characters. :D Anyways.

There has to be loads of Inara/Kaylee. It's just so obvious. *grins*

I totally ship Inara/Kaylee. I think it's what i ship most on Firefly. Definitely into the River/Simon (though River/Jayne really intrigues me) but it's definitely difficult to write, and variations on Mal/Simon/Jayne can be really interesting but don't really compell me. Very into Inara/Kaylee, though.

(I know, I know -- I've got to stop with the comparisons.)

*shrugs* I do it all the time. (Not with Firefly particularly, but just everything. Interconnections are just fascinating.)

'Sir, I think you have a problem with your brain being missing.' Zoe rocks. I still find it odd that after 6 years, she still calls him 'sir'. She's one honourable woman.I've always interpreted that as being somewhat ironic, that it's something of a good-natured banter between them, because of course he's not a superior "sir" to her and they both know that, but it's sort of a way for her to remind him that she does love and respect him, that their relationship isn't about power

At this point, I think that Inara/Kaylee is my second favourite relationship (after Wash/Zoe). The hairbrushing scene was bordering on almost sensual, I thought. :D

I really like the way you see the Zoe & Mal dynamic. Seeing the 'sir' as a respectful nod rather than a subservient requirement -- that's very interesting. And I think you're quite right.

"The Train Job" was the first Firefly episode to air (and thus the first one i saw) and i was sold on Inara/Kaylee from the hairbrushing scene.
