I loved this episode. I liked Serenity because it was really a good beginning -- tons of background information & such -- but this episode had everything that it lacked. I loved the dialogue & Mal was much funnier -- Mal's now on the list of my favourite characters. :D Anyways.
Speaking of liking better, I like this introduction better than the one that had introduced Serenity. While it lost a bit of that Western feel, it's a better introduction for a sci fi show, I think.
It's really awesome how the different cultures that originated on Earth have meshed together -- the crew dressing like American cowboys, speaking English, & then speaking Chinese as well. The costumes were a great throwback as well. It's like all the petty nationality differences are gone -- and the only big line of difference is the Alliance & the Independents.
Mal & Zoe make such a good team. *grins* Mal looks pretty & Zoe has a mean arm. :D
The window in the pub was very cool. I'm very impressed by the use of technology such as that in a rustic backwater of a city. For Mal's sake, it must be so much better than falling through an actual window.
Mal! ♥ That smile! That wave!
I have to speak about the dynamics of Serenity's crew again -- to me, it's a subject I just can't let go. This is so not a typical show. Zoe is the first mate (and a woman!) and still calls Mal on his bullshit. Wash worries about Zoe going into 'battles' & not vice versa. And Kaylee -- a gossipy young woman is the ship's mechanic. It's just so different -- I love it.
This is the first time I've actually heard the proper theme song. It is so pretty. (I've downloaded it & it's currently on repeat as I write this up. Sets the mood, I think.)
I <3 Book. 'Oh, I've got heathens aplenty right here.'
I like how Mal's dislike of God was handled in this episode -- much better than the way it was handled in Serenity, though I understand why. 'You're welcome on my boat. God ain't.' In Serenity, it seemed to me like Mal was directing a lot of dislike at Book but, in this episode, it's clear that his only gripe is with God Himself (or Herself -- sorry).
There has to be loads of Inara/Kaylee. It's just so obvious. *grins*
Oh my. 'Have you got time to do my hair?' *dies* It's definite -- I like Mal so much better in this episode.
I like the word 'solid'. I want to use it like that in daily conversations now.
It's probably odd but during Book's conversation with Inara -- he reminded me a lot of Willow. (I know, I know -- I've got to stop with the comparisons.) I just thought it was so cute how he kind of rambled on there.
'Sir, I think you have a problem with your brain being missing.' Zoe rocks. I still find it odd that after 6 years, she still calls him 'sir'. She's one honourable woman.
Kaylee amuses me to no end. 'There's no call to be snappy, Jayne.' She's like everyone's little sister.
I knew the sheriff knew something was up. He had that look -- that look that says the other characters are fucked.
Simon doped Jayne -- that's just so ... appropriate!
Jayne's lisp! ♥
I cracked up when Mal was confronting the second minion. He was very very cooperative. ;) Probably liked being in one piece.
Aww. Grr. Argh. I missed that little guy.
