Mine is an evil laugh!

Okay. I know I said that instead of doing each episode individually, I'd just do the whole series at once. Well, I have almost three pages of notes just about this episode ... so it's probably better to do it this way. :D Comments are more than welcome (if you feel the need to -- I'm not demanding any or anything), but please don't spoil me for big ( Read more... )

The crazy space incest snuck up on me. But I can totally see it from River's POV. Not Simon, but River? Oh hell yeah.

Kaylee makes me happy. As does Wash. And Jayne and Mal grow on you. The former like fungas, the latter like that boy who keeps calling and just won't leave you be until you go to prom with him, and then you can't quite remember why you didn't want to hang out with him all the time.

This fandom needs more Book fans. if you get the chance, be sure and check out Hawkmoth's fic.

Kaylee is absolutely adorable, and so nice to everyone. To me, she just seems so innocent.

I think Mal's conversation with Simon at the end made me like him a lot more -- Mal might be an ass, but it's for a good reason.

Jayne does have his moments. And I guess it wouldn't be an interesting show if everyone was all sugar & spice all the time.

People don't like Book?! He just seems so interesting. A holy man with a spiritual crisis & a mean one-two punch. :D

Thanks for the link! I've bookmarked it so that I can check it out as I work through the series.

Someday, I so totally want to ask Joss Whedon if the "If you do something bad to Kaylee, bad things happen to you" maxim was accidental, or intentional.

People like Book--but it took a while, and he rarely stars in a lot of fan fiction. I used him sparingly at first, in large part because without knowing his whole story, it's hard to write from his POV.

I have a (very out of date) recs page here if you want links to archives, author's pages, and a year's worth of recs.

Yes! I was just wondering how to explain that Jayne grows on you, and that describes it perfectly. :P

*Grin* I knew you'd like Firefly. The DVDs have the pilot episode, and the picture is really vivid. It also has commentary from Joss Whedon and co., which is hilarious.

Book is really intriguing. It's a shame the show wasn't able to delve into that more before it got axed.

Some of my friends have mad love for Jayne. He does develop as a character, but i've never really felt the attraction.

I clearly am nigh on unsquickable 'cause the crazy!space!incest bothers me not a whit. (I actually have something of an incest kink -- mostly siblingcest -- the whole closeness and tenderness and all that.) I think it creeps Simon out, and that's how i play it when i write it. River being the active participant of course appeals to my additional kink of the young vulnerable girl being the go-getter with an older male, the whole reversal of the Lolita plot or whatever. And this is way more than you needed to know about what i like in fic, huh?

I can't believe there aren't more episodes than there are. *kicks Fox*

Yeah, I can see a few good points in Jayne -- but he rubs me the wrong way most of the time.

Ah, I like hearing about people's kinks. :D It's interesting.

I'm still not sure if I like River that much -- I haven't seen nearly enough of her to form an opinion. Simon really does care for her though. He's so sweet.

:D Well i'm happy to have inflicted upon you, then.

I just find River so intriguing. Simon's not particularly interesting to me, though he's certainly a strong character.

Oh, I'm holding some money back for them. I have to have them. :D

Now, if only Farscape DVDs weren't so darn expensive. *sigh*

Welcome, welcome!

I first watched the same cut of "Serenity" that you did, I think, and while I'm glad to have seen both versions, the cut that's on the DVD is, without question, better. The only thing I really like on this cut that's missing from the DVDs is that scene with Zoe and Simon, which, as you said, is an eye-opener, and I'm sorry they took that out -- but there are other things to make up for it. Besides better picture quality (the stepfather just recently got an enormous new widescreen TV, and watching the Firefly DVDs on it was breathtaking -- it's really a stunningly shot show), there's a bit more to Book's introduction, which I think you'll like, and a thing with a coffee can that makes the getting-away-from-the-alliance right at the beginning more interesting and more sense-making... those are the only differences I can remember off the top of my head, but I know there are more I'm blanking on ( ... )

Glad to be here. *laughs*

I got my copy of 1x00 from 'Hello, Cowgirl' if that would mean anything. I know that later on there is another version of Serenity (1x11 or close to it, I think). Is that the other one you're talking about? Or something completely different?

I really liked the scene with Zoe & Simon, because it explained a lot about why Mal acts the way he does (and coupled with the final Simon & Mal scene, I ended up really liking Mal by the end of the episode).

Heee! I'm so excited to get through all the episodes! I have to watch faster! XD

What's this about an extra scene with Zoe and Simon that wasn't on the DVD?

What happens? What do they say?

Off the top of my head & with the help of some handy quotes -- Book mentions something about Simon needing to know Serenity's history. In his own quarters, Simon looks up Serenity in his nifty encylopedia thing. As it starts to talk about the Battle, Zoe interrupts him & says something like 'we're not in there', 'we weren't generals' or anyone important (roughly quoting here of course ( ... )
