oh hai migraine

Been reading more and more about DC's insistence that not only did everything prior to 2011 not happen in their continuity, but that the '90s were a good thing and should be revived. It's like saying everything was horrible about the Renaissance except the plague: that was a keeper. They've been giving books to Rob Liefeld -- bit like handing ( Read more... )

I don't think I'll mind all that much if they keep these versions going...so long as they bring back the versions I was reading before Flashpoint on an ongoing basis.

I know the odds, though.

David Attenborough adds an air of dignity to the entire proceeding that I'm not sure it deserves. Apparently "yeah" is the mighty tortoise equivalent of "squeak!"

Good Lord, the 90s were a heinous time for all concerned parties. The last Rob Liefeld title I liked was a DC, ironically -- his Hawk and Dove was positively understated compared to what followed. Of course, this was in... what, 1988? Maybe 1989?

And Andrew Wheeler? Is that... OUR Andrew Wheeler? Always nice to hear from another of the CBC old-timers.

I think one of the best comments I ever heard on the 90s was, of all things, the subtitle for Trivial Pursuit: 90s Pop Culture Edition. "A game of trivia for the most trivial of decades."

I think that's the best, worst and most true thing that can be said about the '90s: it just didn't matter. It wasn't even as self-indulgent as the '80s. It was just...there.

I guess my analysis would help if I could remember more of it.

If anything, Liefeld's storytelling capacity seems to have atrophied. It improved at one point, I concede, but we're back on the downslope of a rush of power after inexplicably given DC books to run. It's a very convincing argument for creators to back out of the industry when their skills are overlooked in favor of creators with Liefeld's skill set, or lack thereof.

...And I'd forgotten all about the Wheeler of old. I'm pretty sure this is a new Wheeler, but then, my memories of anything in the CBC era are pretty hazy anymore. Few details pop quite the way they should. I should sit down with my back issues and revisit them, but that was so long ago....

mortal kombat = lovely. play the story mode, cuz there is a character with a great fatality that you must unlock :)

red dead redemption = on my wishlist of games. but i haven't bought it since i'm so behind on my games anyway!

batman arkham asylym and city = play both, loved both. i actually prefered asylum, but city grew on me.

and sick leave is ALWAYS to be used for video games. i actually have some days off coming up. other than the eye doctor, video games is all that on my agenda. plan to split my time between diablo 3, skyrim, and xenoblade chronicles :)

if you play mortal kombats challenge tower, let me know! there was one i absolutely abhorred. i think complaining about it was one of the first things i ever did on twitter, so i could probably look it back up, lol!

Okay, what I don't get about Story Mode (I mean, aside from Sonya's, er ,vest; put those things away before someone gets hurt!) is..."Liu Kang, you have progressed far, you shall now fight...Scorpion! ...And Quan Chi!" The hell? Two-on-one? How is that even vaguely tournament-like? (And that's where I'm stuck at the moment. For all the years I played as him, I just am not very good with Liu Kang anymore. Gah.)

Can't wait to get to the challenge tower. Right now my PS3 time is split between MK's Story Mode, Red Dead Redemption, and playing through Arkham Asylum's challenges as the Joker. Life ain't bad.
