Been reading more and more about DC's insistence that not only did everything prior to 2011 not happen in their continuity, but that the '90s were a good thing and should be revived. It's like saying everything was horrible about the Renaissance except the plague: that was a keeper. They've been giving books to Rob Liefeld -- bit like handing ( Read more... )

I have to say, I'd totally read a decently written revamp of Princess of Gemworld.

They could get...

...hm. No. ... Okay, they could try... ah. Well, he's out. What about ... I think she's busy right now.

... Well, that idea's a wash.

(Also this icon needs just a one-letter edit... hmm. Nah.)

My impression of Amethyst (as someone who didn't read but kept tabs on it) was "decent storytelling with good art, bad marketing and negligible sales." Having Christy Marx aboard should help -- I'm confident it's going to be good storytelling this time around, but I think DC's lack of confidence (shown by shoving it in an anthology series) is going to manifest itself in a lack of commitment to the title. You almost wonder if they're doing this out of a sense of obligation (or court-mandated community service) than anything else....

I am currently reading Batwoman, Frankenstein, Animal Man, Swamp Thing and Dial H for Hero (the one China Mieville is writing, it's pretty cool). If I had money I might pick up some of the trades, but probably I'll just borrow them from work if I'm really driven to it (which I'm not yet). But man, am I sick of ads for Before Watchmen.

Yay for borrowing things from work! I'd be reading Suicide Squad or Birds of Prey if Gail were still involved with them. Writing Barbara Gordon on Batgirl -- okay, I understand the idea behind it, but that's one of those ideas that never needed to happen in the first place, and it's a good summation of how I feel about the 52 in general. And it goes quadruple for Before Watchmen. There are some exceptional creators being wasted in abhorrent and unnecessary exercises under the DC bullet/star/peely-off-thing-logo.

Only title I'm still following as it comes out is The Boys, and it's (a) about as anti-DC as books get and (b) in its final story arc.
