Matt had been completely engrossed in GTA 4, trying to pay a hooker for information when his ears picked up on the voice outside his room.
Pausing the game, silencing the slew of background noise from the television. Shifting off the couch he stretched lazily, rubbing his eyes before snapping a pair of goggles over them once more.
A few steps and he was at the door, actually hesitating before he decided to stop being a wuss and open the damn thing. And there was Mello. But there was no smile, no expression in his voice. Instead, it was rather flat.
"I've been ready for awhile. Whenever you want, it's fine with me."

Facing Matt, who looked somewhat sleep-deprived, and even more, somewhat apathetic, Mello wondered why he couldn´t be the type to say "I´m sorry" or something to that effect once in a while.
But he wasn´t the type. And so, he did what he always did when he wanted to tell Matt things that he couldn´t; he started to nag. He could feel his face getting hot as he marched past his friend, heading towards the heavy curtains filtering any trace of daylight out of the room. It crossed his mind that, before him and Matt had met again for the Takada operation, this was probably how the redhead had spent his entire post-Wammy life.
"When was the last time you opened a window?! It´s like you smoked a forest in here, I swear! That can´t be good --" His words were drowned in a coughing fit as he attempted to open the dusty curtains. But after a while, he managed to get a small ray of light into the room, even if he wasn´t sure if Matt approved of that at all

It was weird, to see Mello flitter about, nagging him about sunlight and the current state of disorder his room was in. So what if it smelt like a chimney? So what if it was dark? Matt didn't exactly like Mr. Sun, nor had he ever sung the song to call him out from behind clouds.
Golden sun my ass...
He remained quiet - entirely reserved as Mello stumbled around, facing him finally. But Matt wasn't in the mood for anything. He'd become as apathetic as a rock.
"I've already had my intake of vitamin D for the day Mello."
It was intensely saddening to see Matt look at him with that dull, unfeeling expression on his face. Mello remembered how he used to be able to actually make this strange boy smile, and spaz, and it didn´t seem to be so long ago. But on the other hand ...
He couldn´t help it, he had to smile.
Because apart from that, this proved he was still the same defiant, sun-hating, outdoor-deprived backtalking little geek brat he´d always been, and Mello couldn´t really imagine Matt any other way.
Mello snorted and had to bite his lip not to laugh, even though it wasn´t quite appropriate, probably. "It´s fine," He growled, pulling the curtains shut again. "I´d be so much more worried if you´d take up tree-hugging in your spare time, really."
He paused.
"Kira is dead," He said after a while. Mello was pretty sure that Matt, who was a hermit but far from an idiot, knew that already, still. It needed to be said. Mello was tempted to add And I killed him, right away, but he was too apprehensive. He
