Calling all writers on my friends list..

I have decided to start a community, drunkvirtue, some sort of writing feedback / workshop community. Recently I applied to a poetry criticism community, and I have understood from that experience that I would appreciate honest, unrestrained critiques and suggestions with regards to my writing, something that I was ( Read more... )

I think it sounds like an amazing idea to have a community where people can put their drafts and other people can tell what they would have written differently and what they like about the drafts. that way we can all give each other new ideas and be inspired by each other.

I would love to join, if I can :)

can you recommend any communities that give hard prose/poetry critiques?

I used to be part of write_away and remember them being harsh, but that was years and years ago and I think I might have just been really bad.

However, the one I recently applied to is poetryslamming. Watch that community, you'll see -- a lot of people who've written poetry for quite some time now, who seriously pick apart your writing. It was an appreciated experience, but the bottom line is I'd like to be part of a community that does not have such high standards, in order to be able to get that feedback in the first place.

I think this is a good idea and I love what you did with your page. I would like to join and share a few prose/poetry. Yeah I had the same problem with Write away and Poetry slamming, I know they were trying to help but I cannot enjoy writing for people who have such high standards--eventually it takes the joy out of just expressing your own thoughts. In other aspects they have helped with a lot of other things. However, I do not feel i have imporoved enough for their tastes and refused to share anything else with them.

By the way, I read your first poem on Poetry Slamming and I thought it was breathtaking. :-)

thanks! for some reason i can never write poetry unless it's for a class. but it's probably because i like constructive criticism. i want to learn how to write on my own time. your community sounds interesting! plus a much prettier layout.

I'm not really any good at writing, but I still think it's a nice idea for those who actually can. I'm sorry if I never give you any proper feedback/criticism but that's mostly because I seriously do not know the first thing about writing.
