What a lame mid life crisis

Mar 03, 2013 18:35

I kind of want to dye my hair some crazy color. I have dark brown hair and haven't dyed it at all save for a Manic Panic red that did nothing except give me red highlights if I stood in the exact right spot in the sun. The idea of bleaching my own hair seemed like a ticket to bald spots, so I just never tried it. All of a sudden, years after the ( Read more... )

My daughter dyed her hair a deep, deep maroon read. It looked really cool and went quite well with her dark eyebrows, lashes and blue eyes. I say, go for whatever colour strikes your fancy! I got a tattoo last year -- a 6" dragon in the middle of my back. (His name is Fred.) As mid-life crises go, it went rather well ... :-)

Hee, I have a tattoo planned - have had the design for a while, but it'll be a bit costly and I just haven't had the opportunity to go ahead and do it, already. So maybe the hair is temporizing. I like the idea of a dark burgundy red.

I am 47. My daughter is 15. She just dyed some of her hair a lovely Easter egg purple. It is mostly only the underneath parts, so it shows when she puts her hair up or in a pony-tail. I wish I could do it too-- but it would not look as good as it does on her. I don't know...

I don't think age should stop a person-- but I am still hesitant. But you should do it, if you want.

That's exactly what I'm thinking about, except my hair is shorter right now and a bit swingy, so the color should peek through from time to time. If the cost isn't too crazy, I think I'm going to go for it.

As a 39&1/2 year old who is currently blue, may I just beg you not to go blue? It's the worst color for upkeep! I have to redo the color (it's non-ammonia, natural stuff so I'm not hurting my hair or scalp but SERIOUSLY!) once a week or it goes a strange green color. It looks like I'm molding by Saturday ( ... )

Aha, excellent advice from someone who is actually tinkering with hair color! Thank you for that. Maintenance is something that I'm lazy about so if I'd have to be tinkering with it constantly that would be a factor.

I've seen the dip-dye look and that's a possibility too.

If you try the dip-dye thing, I definitely want to see pictures! I'm sort of thinking of doing tips on my hair during the inbetween times. I keep it super short (no more than 2 or 3 inches on the top and short short SHORT in the back) so can't do all the really cool dip-dye looks but my hairdresser friend and I keep talking about tips like it might someday be a thing. But, as you say, I'm LAZY too!

I thought about hair chalking. Wasn't sure if it would work, but it seems like it does take on brown hair, so I may give it a whirl.

If you want to do it, then do it. Your 40s are when you really start to feel that other people's opinions aren't worth a penny. If you do it and like it, you give yourself a boost. If you do it and don't like it, you give yourself a giggle and you can always dye it brown again. If you don't do it, you'll never know.

I've already called up the place. Just have to figure out a day where I can set aside two hours to get it done!
