LEGO DUPLO! Do I need to elaborate?

Lincoln Logs, but get the retro wooden ones, (You can find them if you try, I got a set a few years back.) not the cheap plastic stuff. The wooden ones come with the individual slats for the roof, the plastic ones have molded roofs.

We have quite a few infant/toddler toys from Plan Toys- they are wood and well made. I know they do kitchens.
Craigslist has them pretty often but it is too early for us.
Ira had a barn with animals that he really liked when he was Will's age. Melissa and Doug do one that looks pretty good.
I have had good luck finding toys on amazon, ebay, babycenter.com (they run crazy sales sometimes) and Craigslist.

Kata really likes the "cutting food" set she has (by Melissa and Doug) - wooden food with velcro to cut with a wooden knife. Target has made various wooden play food sets that are also fun and cute that she plays with just as much. Her play kitchen also came from Target and is less expensive than some of them were and made mostly of wood and particleboard, I like how it looks and it has held up well and she *loves* it. But if you can find a great one used, I say go for it!

If you want to track down good toys used, I would recommend looking at online and realspace stores to figure out the brands you want and
then searching craigslist and ebay and keeping an eye out for them on whatever parents list you're on.
