I'm participating in a Hawaii Five-0 landcom on dreamwidth called
h50land Life Ruiner: (noun)
Someone who is unbelievably perfect; ruins your image on how most people are;
makes you believe that most people are unworthy because there is someone like
him/her around.
Kono Kalakaua ruined my life...
I started watching Hawaii Five-0 just because it seemed like a show full of action, and mostly because Alex O'Loughlin and Daniel Dae Kim were part of the main cast.
Imagine my suprise when in the very first episode we were introduced to the soon-to-be officer Kalakaua. Right in her first scene, we could see that she was confident, independent, beautiful and an ex-pro surfer (how cool is that?!). I mean, tallk about a powerful female character!
And with every single episode, we got to see more of Kono's skills as a sharpshooter, a great close combat fighter, a flirt, a prankster, a caring and loyal friend, among other things.
That impressed me, because it had been a while since I saw a female character that was created to hold her own without being overly assertive. On most action shows, the main actress is usually the damsel in distress (something that really piss me off) or a super strong, knows it all person (a.k.a. annoying).
Kono Kalakaua is good in a lot of things she does, however she is not perfect, and in my opinion, the flaws of a character are a pivotal thing to make her likeable and realistic.
I keep hoping that we get a Kono centric episode, so I can find out more about her past/history.... At this moment, she is definitely my favorite tv character, which is currently ruining my life because whenever I start watching something else I keep comparing the main female character to her, and keep saying "Kono would do that so much better..."
Steve McGarrett ruined my life for a whole different reason than Kono.
I already knew Alex O'Loughlin from his previous shows Moonlight and Three Rivers, not to mention his superb participation in Criminal Minds. But when I started watching Hawaii Five-0, and he showed up as this tough, courageous, basically a super-Seal, my first thought was "Hmm, he seems very interesting".
First impression aside, as soon as he and Danny began arguing and butt heads, I was sold. He was intelligent, gorgeous (obviously, and he does look great in a uniform), and he got things done quickly (I love that part where he just calls the Governor and all of a sudden he is in charge of everything, including Danny lol).
He is such a loyal guy that would do anything and go the any length to do the right thing, or at least his version of justice. And his sometimes crazy attitude is just icing to the cake, I mean, who never wanted to hang a guy on the roof, or blow up a locked door with a grenade?! Extremely entertaining...
And it just might be my impression, but somehow, whenever I see him interacting with Catherine, I get a feeling that he is super romantic and caring...
Right now, I'm waiting for someone like him to just appear in my life and sweep me up my feet. Or, in another words, he ruined my life because perfect men like him have become extinct.
