Summary: Keito, on his way to a date with Ryutaro, sees something...important.
Nineteen - not a boy, not exactly a man just yet [to rephrase Britney Spears, as much as Keito felt embarrassed to do so.] He was nineteen years old; the eldest Hey!Say!7; the English Gentleman was almost a true gentleman.
And yet, one boy could make him feel like he was 6 years old.
April 3rd, the crux of their birthdays, and he was meeting his boyfriend for romantic date - if something else should follow, how splendid. Keito felt pink heat tickle up his neck. On the brisk spring day, he was thankful he could hide in his scarf as if he was cold as he walked on.
He walked right into a bundle of people, huddled around the window of a konbi. Keito excused himself as he pushed forward. Across a small television screen, a vehicle tipped over burned vividly. Keito, in a shocked state, idly listened to the responses of the adults around him.
“How sad.”
“Such a horrible thing to happen.”
“He must’ve had a family - poor thing.”
“His wife will be devastated when she finds out.”
Keito noticed what nobody else did; that his husband was already there. That being withheld by the police, sobbing and screaming, was the victim’s partner. And Keito, Keito could read the lips of the man, as he charged the flaming wreck.
No! He’s not dead! He’s not - he can’t be dead! Baby! Baby! Please…no…no…
RYUTARO!
Shivers went down his spine. He didn’t know whether it was his own mind playing tricks on him or the man had truly spoken, but Keito didn’t want to watch anymore. He pushed out of the crowd, hiding deep inside of his bulky coat and bundled scarf.
How horrible - to watch as your lover died and not being able to do anything. How suffocating - to watch as they take their last breath; the last breath you two share together. The moment where you can actually feel your heart stop and you know - you know! - that they are……….gone.
God, Keito prayed he’d never have to go through that.
He stopped on the curb, waiting for the light to turn green for crossing. He lifted his head up. The movement, it was like something told him that he need to look up, now, do it now, and just across the way, Ryutaro waited. As if underneath a spotlight, Keito picked out Ryutaro shuffling around, waiting for him. Ryutaro chose to look up then too and smiled at him. He gave a great big wave that probably embarrassed him.
Keito could feel it, his heart. It quickened and pumped faster and faster and his chest was tight, breath heavy. Those last moments…when everything you’ve ever had flashes by because…it’s over now - he thought about them. He thought about the man, watching his partner die, watching his Ryutaro die. And he decided he needed to be with Ryutaro now.
The light turned green and Keito would run if not for the people. No rudeness to them, but they needed to move faster or get out of his way. They were keeping him apart from Ryutaro.
“Hi Kei-“ was all Ryutaro said.
Hands on his hamster cheeks, Keito turned Ryutaro’s face upwards and swallowed his mouth in a kiss. Hell to anyone who would see - he wanted Ryutaro now. He pushed his tongue to entangle with the younger’s and his taste filled up Keito’s brain and he was going crazy in all that was his wonderful lover.
Oxygen didn’t last long in such a passionate deep kiss and Keito pulled away. Ryutaro’s knees buckled and all that held him up was the hand on the small of his back and his death-grip on Keito lapels. And while Ryutaro struggled to catch his breath, panting and gasping, Keito couldn’t help giggling.
“Happy Birthday.” He said between the laughs.
Ryutaro looked up at him with a playful glare. After one more gasp, he said, “Happy Birthday.”
Neither knew who was giving or receiving.
