wheat free

Starting yesterday morning I've been trying a wheat free diet - just for the hell of it. About a year ago Suhaila found out she had a wheat alergy and stopped eating wheat, and afterward she lost weight, had more energy, and had less bloating in her stomach after she ate. I've noticed myself getting a distended stomach sometimes if I eat a bunch ( Read more... )

Did wonders for me.

Also consider cutting out dairy for two weeks and see how you do.

Are you still wheat free, or did you just do it for a little while?

hmmm... I love dairy so much though. I need my cheese and pudding and breakfast cereal.

No, I have developed an actual wheat allergy, so I had to go wheat free for good. =/

I love cheese and ice cream a lot too, so I still eat it -- but I feel better when I don't.

if you go to whole foods/specialty food stores theres all sorts of great stuff, pasta and cereal and all sorts of great foods. It also helps to replace pastas with rice.

Fortunately we have a Whole Foods across the street from us. That's where I got my gluten free Puffins peanut butter cereal. (YUM!)

The weird thing I seem to react to rice poorly. Whenever we got to King of Tandor, an Indian restaurant near us, I have the most swollen belly afterwards.

With the rice indicator, it could be a carb issue rather than a wheat or gluten issue... That's what I've got going on - my body seems to have "lost" the programming for properly digesting carbohydrates, so I have to control my intake carefully or I get bloated and lethargic.

Problem is I can't do a carb-free diet. I have kidney issues, and Atkins type diets would literally kill me.

I don't have any reactions to fruits and vegetables. I can eat potatoes and yams and onions without a problem.

Quinoa! We just had dinner with a friend who has serious allergies including wheat and eggs, and made a tabouleh salad using quinoa instead of couscous. Very delicous and so good for you.
