[He tightened his hold around Cloud more. This time when he held Cloud close, he wasn't gasping for breath. He wasn't losing everything and his vision wasn't fading to nothing. This time, he was trying his best to be there for the blonde. To comfort him and hopefully lift some, even if it was just a tiny amount, some of his pain.

[He was silent for a moment, deciding instead to simply sit there, head against Zack's chest, listening to the steady beat of the other's heart and the deep in take of breaths. It was comforting in a strange way, and Cloud got the feeling they had done it before. Or something close to it. Only this time he was conscious instead of barely there.]
[Zack was thinking really hard on who Cloud meant. He'd been told about Tifa leaving weeks ago, so it couldn't be her. Who else had left that Cloud could be talking about? He was coming up with nothing at all and frowned.]

[He almost laughs, remembering the way that he and Lenalee had talked before she left. She had wanted to meet Zack. To meet his best friend. Because he was special to him, and because of that, would have been special to her as well. Instead, he lets out a small sigh, pressing his face into Zack's chest even more. He doesn't want to move, doesn't want to get up and try to walk. It's weird how just knowing he could lean on Zack for as long as he needed to could comfort him so much.]
[He was always going to be there for Cloud. He was one of his friends that he'd drop everything for and go to. He was confused when he heard the name. Lenalee? Had those two become more than just friends? They must have if this was Cloud's reaction. It was funny, he hadn't been like this when Tifa left, had he? It was a horrible thought that he might not have been there for his friend. But all that mattered was right now. Right now he was there for him. Right now he was holding him, and letting him know it was okay to cry, that it was okay to Zack if Cloud was upset and showed it.
He moved an arm and began rubbing up and down Cloud's back.]

[If Aerith left, what would he want people to say to him? Most likely he wouldn't want anyone to speak to him for a while, he wouldn't want to hear that people were sorry, because that wouldn't help. So he didn't say to Cloud he was sorry. Instead he continued to rub his back slowly and hold him. Letting him know he was there, no matter what.]

[Cloud's hand tightened in the other's shirt for a moment, waiting to the dreaded "I'm sorry" to fall from his lips. But when they didn't, he was met with both relief and surprise. His fingers loosened in the fabric of the other's shirt as he took another deep breath, forcing himself to calm down even further. The hand that was rubbing up and down his back was comforting, the warmth and weight of it against his skin a reminder that he still had a reason to go on.]
