Alas, they had -NO- idea how ridiculous they sounded, and worse, they thought some of their acting was actually top-notch. Sad, aint it? Worse, Richard Hatch -still- thinks the show is amazing. *giggles* I enjoy the show, and know the historical significance of it, but it's so cheesey that it's impossible to take it seriously.
Gotta remember, this was done in the 70's. Can you name a show that doesn't sound stupid now (other than the original Star Wars, which, even that has its moments)?
I enjoyed Eva until the last handful of episodes. But I'm convinced it's only because I didn't know better. When I started buying the discs and tried to rewatch the series, I couldn't. Couldn't even get to my beloved Kaji. Sniff. Sold the discs off so I could be Eva-free.
I bought the box set. Watched it. Got to the last few episodes and went WTF? Kept the box set because hey, it was something every anime collection should have? A classic, right? Bought the movie. Watched it. Went WTF?!?! Couldn't even finish watching it. Sold the movie and the box set. I figure it's something that boys like just because they like mecca. It had potential until it got pretentious and existential. Sheesh. What a waste of a good concept.
