This morning over breakfast I braided my hair in two plaits starting just behind my ears, combining them at the base of my neck. Idea was to reduce flyaways while wandering around in the wind at the beach. That much worked. Having the hair at the back of my head pulled up rather than down was getting somewhat uncomfortable by this afternoon ( Read more... )

mmmm ponytail headaches.

Try it when you have hair like mine.

or skwerlies!

:D

Although, braids are good for camping, beaching, and looking like a heidi.

I remember waking up at two in the morning after attempting to sleep on the shiny french braid mynxii had done for me :)

*is curious* - what's different about your hair so far as ponytail headaches is concerned?

A pair of braids are indeed awesome for looking like a heidi, though if I'm doing that rather than beaching then they're generally a bit looser and starting further down my scalp, so I've not really had headache issues with them before.

i dunno. ponytails seem to pull my hair more... i guess it's all the weight centred on one point, and my pony tail swings and drags a lot.

as compared to braids where i do them nice and tight, and generally french braided, and they hold in close. Not too tight, but not loose. somehwere in between.

*nod*

I've noticed that braids are much better than pony tails at resisting cat attacks - the load is much more evenly distributed.

I had my hair in a fairly loose unplaited pony tail until it reached about half a metre (though by then I had three or four fuzzy elastics spaced down the length of it), then I taught myself how to plait it so I could go swimming.

French braids still elude me.

Your hair is very lovely but this is why I keep mine short. I actually find having it tied back at all surprisingly uncomfortable!

It just needs a little training, and then it will be fine :)

As kae_dash would say - conditioning! >:-)

Extensions make a surprising number of styles very uncomfortable - shoulda seen my face the first time post-extensions I thoughtlessly coiled it up and rammed a chopstick through. Managed to get chopstick between scalp and attachment point and almost levitated in pain...

I didn't realise you were burgundy these days! Pics?

M put in 20 dark red extensions on Saturday. They are oddly hard to spot on hair that colour - just glints and reflections and 'warmth', and a little added bulk.

(retyping after mikolai.tv nuked Safari 3.0.3 :-P)

chopstick between scalp and attachment point

*ow*!!

I added three burgundy under where the plait starts when I had my green put back in - mostly so I could still have some colour down the end, as the green doesn't reach that far anymore. Have been meaning to sort out pics so I can add a border to my default icon. *pokes self*

Warmth is sometimes all I get from my mid-red - partly depends on how careful I am when braiding and partly on luck. I think I should add another four or five.

Pics? :)

I have found that my hair tends to settle into a particular style, and if I pull it in a different direction then in hurts. Unless I wear it in the new style for a while, in which case it settles down.

*nod* I think mine's pretty similar, but it often takes a few goes for it to be happy with a new direction. It took several years to move my part from the right hand side.

Heh - I tried that when I did three smaller braids that joined at the back the previous day, but my cameraphone wasn't quite up to the challenge. It's all back to normal now.
