"I never count my chickens before they're hatched," says best actor nominee Viggo Mortensen, who got the nod for his role in Eastern Promises. "Obviously, a statue would be an honor, but I'm not a huge fan of competition in art. As an actor, you just do the best job you can do. But it's nice to be recognized by one's peers." -- Chicago Sun-Times, ( Read more... )

Once again, the most stunning woman there is Helen Mirren.

Absolutely. That is one gorgeous dress, on a gorgeous lady.

I'd forgotten about Jon's Vanity Fair party joke. You gotta love him. Anything else would be criminal. :)

Helen just rocks the house! And I love love love that dress.

I don't want to break the law, so yes, I wholeheartedly admit to loving the Jon. *G*

OMG! Helen looks amazing. That's the difference between class and trashy or flashy that most actresses just don't understand these days.

And Rita looks pretty damned good too. Her gown is o elegant and I'm not sure I would have placed her as old enough to be his mum, if you hadn't said anything.

*glomps you*

Exactly. Classy. And womanly. God forbid a woman have curves these days!

I agree with you that Rita is stunning as well. Take a peek down at bandraoi's comments, though...hee...I have to agree with her that while I see that attractiveness runs in the family, I can't see much of a resemblance!

*glomps you from a distance so I don't get you germy*

God yes, Helen was absolutely stunning. (Though I have to admit to a serious love thing for Diablo Cody.)

Jessica Alba, on the other hand, looked as though she were about to fall out of her dress. I mean, I know those are the pregnancy boobs, but come on! :D

I adore the longer coat on Viggo, though I can't say the beard is impressing me. I like him either just scruffy or clean-shaven. Colin was OMGTHUD gorgeous and so cute when he introduced Glen and Marketa. I personally would have liked to see more Johnny Depp, but I console myself with the proliferation of sexy accents, including Tilda Swinton, McAvoy, and Day-Lewis. :D

Ooh, yes, Diablo is a striking woman as well--definitely not a cookie cutter Hollywood gal! I thought she looked gorgeous!

I honestly didn't pay much attention to Jessica...never understood that whole hype anyway. I guess when you're pregnant and can't show anything off, you go for the boob display...hee!

I'm with you on Viggo, I'm not big on facial hair for him either. I'm hoping the weird beard is due to a movie role and not a personal choice. Ack. I also like him better with his hair across his forehead. I do like that he sticks with having a unique fashion sense and long classy coats are a definite improvement over those soccer PJs...lol. :)

Colin's intro was cute and heartfelt, wasn't it? I liked his little slide up to the podium too, after he slipped on the floor.

Definitely more Johnny and less Jack! Augh!

So glad you enjoyed! I think Viggo's arrived at a good healthy attitude...a few years back he would have avoided the ceremony like the plague. I'm glad he was there to bask in the honor of being nominated; he deserves some recognition!

Awwww, what an adorable Viggo!!! *grabby paws*

I am the only person on the face of the planet to think Helen Mirren is deeply plain (good actress and nice person and all that) but Colin's mum could be his date. Impressive.

Sorry to hear of evol cold/flu bug *offers tea and tissues*

I was happy when I found this pic 'cause it had a little more Viggo head-tilty attitude in it than some of the other shots I saw...hee!

Helen Mirren is sort of a whole package kind of gal--she's got confidence and grace and class...and a rockin' bod'. Hee! She just looks like this wonderful, elegant movie star instead of a shriveled up crow like so many of the younger "prettier" actresses are.

And I agree, Colin's mum looks lovely.

Thank you! *hoards tea and tissues* I've used about a thousand of the latter already, it's ridiculous! I need Sean Bean to come over and give my aching shoulders a massage with his lovely long fingers. *G*
