Oh, Shrift - I'd be terrified, and I'm pretty sure my brain would freeze up and forget all the shit they teach you in self-defense classes about being aware of your surroundings and having your cell-phone programmed with ICE ("In Case of Emergency" so if you're unconscious an EMT can scroll through your cell-phone list and find the right person to notify.)

I'm glad you and roomie are alive and okay. I'm sure Chicago's finest will do their best (I live in bumfuck Nevada, but I love my cops - they are so diligent, honest and wonderful.)
