I found wrapping the cat in a towel and holding him with my legs worked well for clipping nails. Doing it regularly and giving him treats right afterward also helped. Eventually he held still. He didn't like it, but he knew that as soon as it was over, he got a treat.

Totally - I used to wrap the big guy in an afghan that A. Helen crocheted for me b/c it had big enough spaces to wrap the cat completely and pull his arms & legs out one at a time. 9 years later, he sits calmly on my lap while I do it and it takes like 5 seconds.

The little guy though... I've never seen a cat like this one. Wrapped him in a little blanket the first time, and... he ran, spooked & terrorized whenever I'd even *touch* a piece of cloth and happened to be in the same room for him for about a year after that. [Sigh.] He's such a sweet little guy and I think that if I would just suck it up and do it more often it wouldn't be so bad for him. It was encouraging that even last night he let me carry him to bed, so parent-Fraidy relations are much more quickly repaired these days! :-)
