Failure to Write

One of my greatest fears is to pursue writing and to fail miserably. To find what I feel that I already know, that I have no talent and am less than ordinary, that this is all I will ever be. This leads to brief periods of writing with great oceans between them of academic writing. I love academic writing. This is something I do well. I am ( Read more... )

all the best to you in this. you can't fail if you don't try. "ordinary" and "normal" are terms that probably shouldn't exist. i think they work best on machines or drinks or products...not people. as far as writing being a 'product' it is the art of the person

saw a movie - looking for forrester - the writer had taken on a 'student' and gave him a typwriter, sat him down and told him to write. the kid looked worried, stuck, afarid, etc. he looked over at the old man who was busy typing away like crazy. the kid said, what are you doing, and the man said i'm writing...it was like physical comedy - the act of writing is writing, the rest is avoidance!
now, on the othere side of the coin - one of my favorite 'writer' scens is in the shining when jack is 'writing' continuously - scary-wonderful, crazy-formal.
