Circle of mirrors was totally totally totally Kinda reference Y/Y?! (Lotsa Five references in this ep, yes.)
Lazy Doctor death explanation was lazy.
The episode as an AU was okay. The very concept that an AU was needed in and of itself was kinda pointless...but as basis for what's to come is cause for it to be elevated a bit in my mind. (Though, um, why does Rose magically know everything that's been happening?)
Rose was fun, in that her funny moments were successfully funny and I bought that she was a little older and into her job. Personality-wise, sort of Rose-ish (in the good ways, with an edge that I will call good depending on where it goes in upcoming episodes), sort of very not Rose-ish (too much scientific expertise, dude), but didn't make me want to throw things, so we're calling it a relative victory.
VERY Y. Or we are biased and watch the world through Five-coloured glasses.
Obviously, in that universe, he...sucks at it even more, I don't know.
I just wish the AU had been the whole...point, instead of the Villains That Won't Go Away and the Darkness Eating The Stars or whatever the hell. Everyone working together to get the Doctor back. With Sarah Jane leading the way, naturally. (I'm...hoping that will be explained later.)
Definite one-up on her last appearance, but that's...not very difficult. I'm glad she's confident and competent and all, just...she was a bit dull.
Yeah, it's not difficult at all. Though, you know, I was expecting to be blinded by a spitting rage. I'm struggling with the fact that I liked her fine and she did definitely make what was going on more interesting in the way she brought it together (OMG she improved something for me?!) vs. the fact that she really was just kind of...uh, there as an individual. But then, it took a few episodes into s1 before she was anything more than just there and good enough for me in the first place.
I...uh...suppose what with him being all angsty from the resurging realization of everyone being gone, he just let himself drown? OMG HE ELECTED NOT TO REGENERATE WHY DIDN'T IT OCCUR TO ME BEFORE. Though that does seem a bit un-Doctory because he's always been suicidal and yet he doesn't off himself. Perhaps recurring flood of extinction memories makes it different.
The only part of this episode that really got to me was when the TARDIS showed up. I was like oubsgobs SHE'S DYING (and don't get me started on them constantly calling her 'it') and the fact UNIT had her strapped up to machines to run their own ridiculous 'time machine' just made me frown more. Yes, I feel more for a time machine than I do anyone else in Donna's AU. Even Gramps. And I love Gramps.
The cloister bell made me SQUEE IN GLEE. It's about the only thing Rusty did right the whole episode.
I've decided. Of all the characters coming back next time? Rose is the only one I won't care if she dies. Followed by Gwen. We all know it's not gonna happen.
I also like my idea that Donna has the Matrix within her, which is what makes her so powerful and why that random woman wanted her to turn right in the first place. It would explain why Donna's so damn important, they could extract the Matrix and she'd still live and be Donna, instead of being a fobwatched!Time Lord, and all the Time Lords could come back because their biodata is in

XD It always helps.
Heh. I won't be too fussed if anyone from Torchwood dies, honestly.
Ooooh. I like that.
