I personally didn't see the clip trying to introduce her as The Girlfriend. Maybe I should watch it a second time except I don't want to spend another $18 just to see it in glorious IMAX 3D. How often do you see (black/nonwhite) female characters that are also love interests return for the sequel and don't get fridged within ten minutes?

I think I'll let the audience decide if they want to bother catching up on Star Trek before May 17. Maybe I'm just too tired right now to really think about it but I don't care to worry about how the audience might see her based on the clip. It's not my job.
