Part 2 - I believe that trust is more important than monogamy
December 16th
SUNY Albany - State University of New York in Albany
Campus Center - Food Court
“And no one knows where they are?!”
“Yeah, and the scary part is,” A pause. “Their wives don’t know either!”
“I heard from Melissa that they found two of them.”
“Mmhm, Pat Stiles and Debra Mochrie.”
“The wives of your favorite guys?”
“Yup.” The young woman paused, taking a sip from her bottle of Sprite. She was a young woman with shoulder length muddy brown hair and brown eyes with gold rimmed glasses framing her face. She wore a white sweater with “Ocean City New Jersey” written on it over a white turtleneck, midnight blue jeans, and a pair of brown timberland boots. She wasn’t thin like half of the girls on campus, just a little bit on the chunky side. A black down jacket hung on the back of her chair. Adjusting her yellow UALBANY baseball cap, she took a brief glance towards the glassed off area of the food court.
“Were they ok when the police found them?” The other person, also a young woman asked before taking a bit out of her slice of pepperoni pizza. She was a bit of an opposite to the other woman with short black hair, cerulean blue eyes, thin black rimmed glasses and with a pink bandana with white paw prints tied around her head. She wore a dark blue sweatshirt, blue jeans and white and blue converses sneakers. She, too, wasn’t thin, but she wasn’t overweight. A blue fleece jacket with a leopard on the back hung on the back of her chair.
“Well, ‘Lissa said they only had a few bruises and suffered from shock, but no foul play though.” The first woman answered, taking a bit from her slice of cheese pizza. There was a pause, until the second woman spoke.
“Who?”
“Huh, Sam?” the brunette looked up in confusion.
“Who would do such a thing, Julie?” Sam asked, her blue eyes showing concern. Julie lowered her eyes, staring at her paper plate with what was left of her pizza on it.
“I dunno. There are some crazy sickos out there, Sammie.” Julie answered softly. Sam sighed. She had known Julie since middle school and they had been friends for almost ten years. During that time, they had been fans of many different comics, movies and TV shows, from Japanimation to live action shows.
Several months ago, Julie had started to get back into “Whose Line is it Anyway?”, mostly because of the announcement of the first part of the first season was being released onto DVD. Since then, Julie had been surfing the net, getting as many photos and video clips from the show that she could get. She even had gone so far as to download every episode from the show onto her computer and transferred them to CD, making her older brother, Will, shoot her some nasty looks.
For the past several days, she had been in a “Funk” as Will had called it because of the abduction of the seven more popular performers of “Whose Line”. Sam knew that Julie was a fan of the show, often quoting episodes from memory during their instant message chats and the times they get to hang out in between classes. Hearing that seven of them, plus the wives of two of them, were missing made her very troubled. Sam, herself, liked the show, but not as much as Julie. Julie had called herself a member of the Whose Line fans - a “Whoser”. She had said they were similar to “Trekkies”, but unlike them, “Whosers” were a bit saner.
Sam sighed, placing a hand on top of Julie’s clenched one.
“Julie, there’s nothing you can do, nothing any of us can do. I mean look at us. What good can an Art major and a Communications and Rhetoric Major do?” Sam said. Julie nodded in agreement, a small smile appearing on her lips.
“Right…” Julie said, finishing off the crust of her pizza. Sam nodded, going back to her pizza slice.
Once they were done, they left the building and went over to the library to meet up with one of their friends Melissa. She had sent them both an e-mail, stating that she had something BIG to tell them. Both women figured it had to do with something her father, a police detective at the Albany PD, had discovered. Also, none of the women had anymore finals to worry about, so they had plenty of time to meet.
Melissa was an attractive looking woman with blonde hair that went past her shoulders and hazel eyes. She was petite and thin, but with a big heart. She stood outside the library in a hot red down jacket over a light pink sweater, maroon colored jeans, and white polo shoes. Her blonde hair was tied back in a high pigtail and wore black earmuffs.
“Jewel! Sammie! Hey, over here!” she shouted, once she spotted the two women, waving her hands in the air. Sam and Julie gave each other a look of embarrassment. Sometimes Melissa got a little too hyper, especially when it came to good news. Sighing, they walked over to their friend, Julie’s blue L.L.Bean purse bouncing with every step she took.
“So what’s the sitch, ‘Lis?” Julie asked, doing her best Kim Possible impression, which was pretty good. Sam rolled her eyes, knowing Julie’s habit of doing impressions any chance she get.
“You guys are NOT gonna believe what I’m gonna tell ya.” Melissa said, raising her hands up slightly. Sam crossed her arms.
“Try us; we’re gullible.” She smiled sarcastically. Julie smiled as well, crossing her arms as well, but doing so to keep herself warm.
“But can you tell us in the library? It’s freezing out here!” Julie asked, rubbing the sides of her arms and jogging in place to keep the circulation going through her body.
“Hell no, you guys gotta see this!” Melissa shook her head and grabbed her two friends by the arms and dragged them away from the Library.
“Can I at least e-mail mom so she doesn’t worry about me?” Julie muttered to herself, getting dragged away from the library. She and Sam were dragged past the Art and science building, down a small set of steps and towards the new University Hall.
Once she got in front of the doors of the building, she finally released her grip on her friend’s arms.
“Ok Melissa… What’s going on… and why’d you... drag us… over here?” Julie panted and coughed, trying to catch her breath due to her asthma.
“Ok, listen up, you guys listening?” Melissa began, still hyper. Sam gave her a dirty look. Julie let out a loud cough as she fished through her purse for her inhaler.
“Yeah, we’re listening, but can we talk inside?” Sam asked. Melissa sighed and ushered her two friends into the building.
Once inside, the three girls shed their jackets and gloves. Julie finally had the chance to take her inhaler and finally stopped coughing. Melissa faced her two friends, who stood against the wall, both now waiting patiently for Melissa to tell her news.
“Ok, here’s the situation, guys. Yesterday, after I was done with my Finals for that day, I came over here for shits and giggles…” Melissa began.

*Flashback*
Melissa entered the University Hall, shedding her red down jacket. She had on a light blue sweatshirt over a matching turtleneck and black Liz Claiborne pants. Glancing around the inside of the building, she smiled and head off towards the stairs to explore.
Going down the stairs into the basement, she began humming to herself. Entering the lower level, she began to feel a bit nervous. She stopped humming and began to softly sing to herself.
“In sleep he sang to me… In dreams he came…” Melissa sang to herself, brushing strands of hair out of her eyes as she walked down the hallway that lead away from the stairs under the basement. The more she walked, the more she felt scared, and the more she sang. And at this time, she was feeling pretty scared and, since she was a pretty good singer, she kept on singing.
“That voice which calls to me… and speaks my name…” her voice getting louder and stronger as she checked down the halls. “And do I dream again? For now I’ve find… The Phantom of the Opera is there… inside my mind.” Melissa sang, getting a bit louder as she sang. She took a breath and cleared her throat, about to sing the next verse when…
“Sing once again with me,
Our strange duet.
My power over you
Grows stronger yet.” A man’s voice sang the next verse. Melissa gasped softly, trying to follow the voice. The mystery man continued to sing back to her.
“And though you turn from me
To glance behind
The Phantom of the opera is there
Inside your mind.” The man continued. Melissa paused, wondering if she should sing back to whoever was singing with her.
‘This is like something out of “Phantom of the Opera!” Hmm, and the guy isn’t a bad singer.’ She thought to herself. Taking a deep breath, she sang out Christine’s part while trying to be brave.
“Those who have seen your face
Draw back in fear
I am the mask you wear.” Melissa paused for the response back.
“It’s me they hear.” The man responded. Melissa turned down a hallway where the man’s voice sounded louder, wondering where it was leading her. She still sang.
“My/your spirit and your/my voice
In one combined
The Phantom of the Opera is there
Inside your/my mind…” Both the man and Melissa sang together. They were off for the first line, but found sync part-way through the second line. Melissa went further down the hall, slowly.
“In all your fantasies
You always knew
That man and mystery…” The man sang out. Melissa knew that he was close by and followed further down the hall.
“…Were both in you…” She sang back, checking the several doors down the hall, peering into the windows in the door to see if the man singing to her was in any of the rooms.
“And in this labyrinth
Where night is blind
The Phantom of the Opera is here
Inside your/my mind” They sang together again. Melissa paused, staring at one door where the voice was the strongest.
“Sing to me, my angel of music.” The man sang.
“He’s there. The Phantom of the Opera…” Melissa sang, moving towards the door slowly, one step at a time. There wasn’t a glass panel in between the small window in the door. She ‘sang’ the operatic part of the song the best she could as the man’s voice belted out the Phantom’s lines of “Sing, sing for me, sing my angel of music…” Melissa placed her hands on the bottom edge of the window and stood on her toes to see if the man was in the door.
A hand shot out from the window, reaching for her wrist. Melissa did the only thing she could do.
Scream.
“AHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Stumbling back against the wall, Melissa panted for breath. A few seconds later after catching her breath, she ran back the way she came down the hallway.
*Flashback ends*

“… and I ran out of the building straight to the Colonial Quad right to my dorm.” Melissa finished, sitting on the ground with her back against a pillar inside the building. Sam and Julie sat opposite of Melissa, against the wall.
“So you got scared shitless by a so-called ‘Phantom of the Opera’, ‘Lissa?” Julie asked, tilting her head to the side questionably.
“That’s what I said.” Melissa nodded.
“And you didn’t call your dad because…?” Sam made with her hand a “go on” type of gesture towards Melissa.
“He’d flip out if he learned about yesterday. Besides, there was something about the man’s voice… something… familiar.” Melissa sighed, resting her forearms on her knees and head against her left arm. Julie and Sam gave each other hesitant looks.
“So… what do you want us to do?” Sam asked, pointing to herself and Julie. Melissa looked up, arms still on he knees.
“I wanna go back down there to that room.” She answered. Sam and Julie nearly fell over in surprise, staring at the blonde in complete astonishment.
“Are you out of your mind!? You wanna go back there?!” Sam asked incredulously, giving her a look that pretty much asked “What the fuck are your thinking?!”
“Melissa, this is nuts. This is something that usually ends up with someone getting hurt or even worse: killed and/or raped!” Julie exclaimed.
“You seriously need to lay off the Law and Orders, Jewel.” Melissa sighed, propping her chin on the palm of her right hand. Julie just glared at her before turning away.
“At least I know there are problems with this whole idea.” Julie stated sternly, crossing her arms. Melissa pulled herself up to her feet.
“Well, no matter what, I’m going back to that room and you two are coming with me!” Melissa stated flat out. Sam and Julie sighed, knowing there was no way they’d be able to convince Melissa not to return to the mystery room. Both girls stood up.
“Alright, we’re coming with you.” Julie sighed.
“But if things get nuts, we bolt. Got it?” Sam declared. Melissa nodded in agreement before she turned and lead her two friends to the stairway.
