Honeymoon Salad. And anime. And Conan (Detective).

The more I think about the Honeymoon Salad ending, the more I like it. (I first read it last year in Chinese.)

I thought at first that it was a bit of a copout ending for what had been until then a beautifully nuanced series, but actually... now I think it is the only way it could have ended.

spoiler for the ending )

detective conan, anime, manga, un-go

Oh man, you shouldn't watch Tiger&Bunny for the plot. The plot is only there to explain the two mains and get them and their relationship to develop (and to have fun with clichés, in whatever way). It's all about the characters.

Japanese fans still thought that Maverick was a fantastic, nice old man as far as episode 13. How.

HOWEVER, I'll add that I feel differently about the memory manipulation. I thought it was handled and laid out perfectly in relation to Barnaby. Really with it his character makes more sense, both motivation-wise and in a meta sense. He was a tool through and through.

Kaede fix was pretty shabby though, if you're plot-conscious.

I think I was more or less okay with the Barnaby aspect... but on a larger scale the memory stuff just didn't work for me. I mean, from Agnes/Saitou et. al we know that the power apparently transfers even through the TV screen, which kinda begs the question of why he didn't bother brainwashing the entire population or something to begin with. Though of course that's just me thinking too hard about the plot. XD

It would be pretty risky, the more people he brainwashes the more chance there is of getting caught. It was shown not to be absolute at all. Maverick wasn't planning anything large-scale and was acting purely as a reaction to the events spiraling out of control. It made him less effective as a villain, but more rounded as a character, I think.

DX I know what you mean about Tiger&Bunny. I love the show but after going back and taking a look at it again the plot really did suck. I would really only watch this show for the characters.

I was getting pissed with them using amnesia as a plot device. -_- I'm really glad that Sunrise didn't completely run T&B into the ground with the last couple episodes but I guess that's what the second season is for....=_=

lol, still a good show though. The thought of a second season makes me super wary, although there are a lot of obvious ways to go with one. I don't think they're going to be able to emulate what made this season so successful though...

Sometimes I feel like I keep up on current anime more out of habit than out of any real interest anymore... still, there's usually at least one show worth watching per season!

[Last Exile] What? Another season?

...hnnn.

I was....suffice to say, not very impressed with the first one. It had promise and I liked the first episode, but the plot-progression (and in several cases the actions of characters) seemed to veer off from there. I liked the world and the technology of it, but it's really hard to sell an anime on just that, especially when so little is actually explained/talked about.

Character-wise, I pretty much only really "liked" Mullen, Dio, and Vincent, and none of them really got anything especially good, or innovational (or whatever) in terms of endings.

I'd be interested to hear what you think about the series though. Perhaps something just flew by me, because the writing, on a whole, seemed pretty patchwork--like the rough-cut before someone really got to shape it.

Yeah, Gonzo has never exactly been strong at plot tbh -- which became more and more obvious over the years. But when Last Exile first came out back in... oh gosh, 03? I think I watched it in 04... it was really exciting precisely because of all the thought they put into the world -- something that I really haven't seen repeated since then on the same scale. It was really the promise/potential for more that attracted me to the series. (And it's one of those series where nostalgia makes it seem better than it probably actually was -- it's probably a sign of how weak the actual story was that I don't remember the details very well at all.)

It was pretty much a landmark series at the time, and even now, in terms of creativity/originality/sense of wonder, it's heads and shoulders above a lot of (if not most) current fare imo.

03? I had no idea it was so old o: That's very interesting and does lend it some extra credit. (And I can totally understand the nostalgia bit x3 I certain I have many series I watched that fall under that umbrella)

It would be really nice if other shows could make some more world-building like it. So, I will keep my eye out for that second season and look into it when it comes. Hopefully it'll turn out pretty neat. c:
