Native/pre-Buddhist syncretization Japanese mythology is peculiar and fascinating*. I've long wished I had the skill to read the Nihon Shoki and Kojiki in the original language (a weird mix of classical Chinese and Old Japanese, the former of which I can handle okayish but the latter...).
